Wahoo GPS Bug - Wrong Date, Time, Inaccurate GPS

Wahoo just posted an update

Interesting. Is there some technical reason why they couldn’t just roll back to the previous version?

This is a bug that has been present since the first version of these devices, like a y2k bug. They’ve never been able to deal with 2025. I guess that’s something I have in common with my head unit.

Thanks for sharing. At least they are being very open and transparent about the issue and the apology feels authentic.

I’ve decided to bail on my half Everesting today and am just gonna do a 200k ride instead. Really don’t want to rely on the Wahoo for my first attempt at a half and find it’s inadvertently screwed me on the elevation (because of the glitch) after I’m done :joy:

A firmware update for Bolt/Roam (not yet for the original Elemnt) has been released according to the support page. Fingers crossed it does the job!

All fixed now with new updates to fix

I updated mine and the GPS works and time of day is correct. Date is still 2006. Glad to have it mostly functional

Ohh I changed my date and time and all is ok also.

I mostly ride on the trainer these days, but I went for an outdoor ride Thursday with my old Lezyne Super GPS and came back to a ride completed in 2006 lol. Finally the push I needed to upgrade to a Garmin Edge.

Strange that it even gave you a GPS trace. Every now & then, mid-ride, my Lezyne Mega XL’s date changes to something random (usually off in the future), & it loses GPS because having the correct date & time set is critical. I’ve got their helpdesk looking into it. Maybe something similar is happening to yours, especially if the ride’s elapsed time on strava measures in the hundreds of thousands of hours.

All fixed now, but my ride was affected slightly differently. Apparently, I’ve never ridden so fast in my life. I was getting close to the sound barrier!

Chapeau :billed_cap:

Nice effort - what’s your FTP at the moment 10millon w/kg :joy:

The fix that was released is only addressing the Roam and Bolt. The original Elemnt is not officially addressed yet, they are still working on it

However, Wahoo doesn’t mention it, but they seem to have fixed this in the Elemnt app, having it automatically fix the date before it uploads to Strava, etc. I say this because yesterdays ride of mine had the correct date on it. But maybe that was a fluke?

No, I was riding in dolomites of Italy and to the beach during the period and the GPS was wild and the dates were 2006 - not regional and still doing same in US until I loaded the fix firmware (I hope!)

I loaded the fix. It’s worse. Date still wrong. No GPS. I’m not willing to buy a new computer. I have given up on wahoo products.

Are you sure that you have the fix? Double check the firmware version on your device itself. What device do you have?

I have the original Elemnt and at first the GPS fix reset all my data fields and pages to default. Actually all settings seemed to be default except it remembered my paired devices. But in the iPhone app all my custom fields were still there. Changing fields on the app didn’t do anything on my GPS even though they communicated fine. I tried restarting it, modifying the fields again, restarting my phone, etc. Nothing worked.

Then a few days later it was suddenly fixed. All my old settings were back. No updates to the phone app or firmware. :person_shrugging:

I did the check for updates from the unit and made sure no updates were available from the app. I reset the head unit. I’m back!
