Wahoo Bolt Ride Not Syncing?

Crazy how random all of this is and how it dictates the various adherents to the two ecosystems.

Great it isn’t just me,I have noticed however it is constantly rescanning HISTORY every 10 seconds or so along with closing the app when I try to setup sensors or select workouts
And last ride outdoors it wasn’t reading my 4iiii right either, recorded fine in the background and showed fine post ride in the companion app and for TP and Strava though, but that seems to have been fixed image
Always something isn’t it

I have this VERY OFTEN (3 out of 5 times), and I ride at least 1-2 times a week outdoors. I have an iPhone 11, but also had this on my previous 5S.

I noticed the following behaviors:

(1) You can observe this when you have the app open on your phone and the wahoo in front of you: when you close the ride stats after a ride, only then does the elemnt typically connect and/or start syncing in the app.

(2) Oftentimes, my elemnt does not pick up WiFi signal, preventing it from syncing. I then have to reboot the elemnt before it picks up WiFi. It’s not my WiFi, I had this at 3 other places where I use other people’s WiFi. Oftentimes, I have to do a recurrent combination of closing the app and rebooting the elemnt before it works.

(3) Worse, on occasions, the elemnt would pick up WiFi, but would not start syncing. I have had to reboot my iPhone ffs 3-4 times in the last 2 months. SO FRUSTRATING

(4) Unrelated to this: my element just froze on me when doing 100km. Fortunately, it picked up when I rebooted it (would have gone crazy if it would’ve lost my ride entirely). But it did started calories at zero. So my 100km ride of 3h40 was 600 kcal or something what a joke.

Don’t want to flame, but I keep saying this. Whatever Wahoo pushes out, it has big issues:

  • kickr: we all know this
  • tickr: slowly dies, becomes inaccurate, strap or plastic of tickr dies
  • bike computer: sync issues, connection issues, Strava sync issues

Unfortunate, because all their products look enticing. Particularly the ire bike computers I like 100 times better than Garmin.

I have never had these issues with my ROAM but I have seen the sync issue a number of times since the last update with the BOLT.

I think it is probably an iOS issue as I had problems with my a number of other Bluetooth devices (before the latest iOS update). I stopped having issues after I powered the phone off an then on.

Anyone having issues with Android?
I’m guessing it’s just an IOS thing.

Crazy this issue is still ongoing.

Don’t think I’d say that’s fair for the bolt - I’ve had mine a few years (About a week after they first came out infact) it has been absolutely rock solid, other than the up button not working very well these days. The best feature being the Live track it was so stable. This is certainly something you couldn’t say about a Garmin head unit ever until a few months ago when they decided to actually start putting in fixes for bugs that had been around for years.

Interesting, good points. Live track NEVER worked for me and I’ve tried at least a thousand times already. How did you get it to work?

Live track worked for me for about 6 months and then never again since.

Really disappointing as it was one of the key selling features for my wife to be able to check I haven’t fallen in a ditch or worse.

LiveTrack stopped working for me about 4-8 weeks ago. During one of the updates, it turned off LiveTrack, requiring a manual re-enablement. But the emails stop sending. Those haven’t come back at all.

I agree with the observation the Bolt used to be rock-solid. For the past several months, not so much.

I have the EXACT same issue and it has been going on for months. Was perfectly fantastic until about 2-3 months ago when this started.

Received this today from Wahoo tech (7/21):

Thank you for clarifying your issue. The sync problem is likely the reason those rides are not auto sharing to your other apps. This is an issue we are aware of and we have opened an internal ticket with our development team to investigate and resolve the problem.

Since we have an open ticket with our development team, all customer service tickets related to the issue (including this one) will be marked as “On-Hold” and merged with the developer ticket to be monitored internally. This process allows us to send automatic notifications to you via email when changes are complete. Full release notes are posted on https://support.wahoofitness.com

Be sure to keep your app and device up-to-date to receive the fix, when available.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and support as we strive to serve you better. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns in the meantime.

Thanks for being a Wahoo customer,

On this one - I had the automatic emails going to a family mailbox & they stopped sending.
I added a secondary email address and these worked.

Contacted Wahoo support and I think we had unsubscribed the family email address from the Wahoo marketing emails or something - which had put it on a do not send list.

New FW out today. Installing now and hope it will help. FW notes say “Stability enhancements”

Livetrack in general still works for me, but my wife did get an automatic email that I ‘started’ a ride appx 20hrs after I finished it this weekend. Odd.

My ROAM has completely gone to crap. LiveTrack hasn’t worked at all for a couple of weeks and since the last firmware update with “Stability enhancements” my rides will not sync. To get a ride from the ROAM to the ELEMNT app I have to unpair the ROAM, delete the app, install the app, pair the ROAM and reauthorize all of my connected services.

Currently Garmin shopping as this is unacceptable. Last three months with Wahoo have been very painful.

Interesting development with my Bolt yesterday.

Ride didn’t sync to Strava but did sync to TP.

Then ride did sync to Strava (after what seemed like an inordinate delay) but the data hasn’t ‘pushed’ over to TR.

Went to my laptop to expert the gpx from Strava so I could manually add the ride to TR but noticed in the interim it has resolved.

I think something odd happened because when I got home and the bolt was uploading the ride to my Wahoo app on my iPhone, mid way though a message came up on the App saying some ‘updates’ needed to happen and then what appeared to take place was a complete ‘sync’ of all the data on the Bolt to the App again; so maybe this glitched the upload.

Very strange …

PS: as an aside, my roaming notification (livetrack) has never worked - my partner used to get an email but the link showed no activity but after the first couple of rides the email stopped sending …

Had to plug in my Bolt to a computer to manually upload the ride again. Thanks Wahoo.

Just received from Wahoo support, buying a Garmin 830 if this doesn’t work.

We are aware that a number of users are experiencing connectivity issues on iOS after the iOS 13.5.1 update and our development team is actively working on improvements to connection stability. In the interim, please ensure you are on the latest version of iOS (13.6) and the ELEMNT app via the Apple App Store, then follow the steps below to reset the ELEMNT’s connection with the phone. Even if you have previously re-paired your device, please complete these steps exactly in order once again as the ordering is critical to resolving the connection stability

Step 1: Forgetting the ELEMNT Companion in the companion app

  • Open the companion app
  • Select settings
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Unpair ELEMNT

Step 2: Forgetting the phone on the ELEMNT Bolt

  • Power on the ELEMNT Bolt
  • Press the power button to bring up the menu
  • Select forget phone

Step 3: Forgetting the ELEMNT in your phone’s Bluetooth settings

  • Open the iOS settings app
  • Select Bluetooth
  • Under my devices, find the ELEMNT and select the info button on the right
  • Select forget this device
  • Repeat these steps for any duplicate listings of the device
  • Important: Toggle the Bluetooth switch at the top of the screen off for 10 seconds, then back on

Step 4: Re-pairing the ELEMNT to your phone

  • Quickly press the left-side button on your ELEMNT to display the menu
  • Scroll (with the right-side buttons) to either “PAIR PHONE” or “FORGET PHONE”
  • Your device may reboot, displaying the QR code when it powers back on
  • If the QR code does not immediately display on reboot, return to the settings menu on the ELEMNT and select “PAIR PHONE” - the QR code should now be shown
  • Return to the ELEMNT Companion App on your device, then navigate to the settings menu to add the ELEMNT

With the latest FW today (7932) my bolt synced and uploaded to Strava and Dropbox perfectly. Using iOS 13.5.1. Maybe now I won’t ever update it again

That’s really specific… almost surprised they’re not recommending a factory reset – seems like that would be simpler and probably accomplish the same?! But I can’t help but think this is a result of something Apple did. Android is notorious for battery draing because they allow apps to do pretty much whatever whenever, but Apple has really locked down apps and their access, especially in the background and with external interactions where privacy could be implicated (so bluetooth, wifi, gps). Instead of keeping the details all secret, I wish they would go into WHY this problem pop’d up all of sudden.

Just did that and it also updated to WB15-7934
Iphone Xr with IOs 13.6
Companion App v1.33.1 (4310)
no joy,
powered down and restarted both
NO Joy,…
Still problems with it shutting down companion app when setting up sensors (settings screen) or anywhere on workout screen, and still appears to be searching history every 10 seconds or so.
I guess it waits until they update further,…
