Using Garmin to adjust resistance on Wahoo trainer

For the last year or so I’ve been using my garmin 1040 to control the resistance on my trainer during my TrainerRoad rides. I do a lot of free rides so this makes sense. I also use a Zwift cog so can’t control via shifting gears.

It’s always has reasonably close (close enough) jumps between resistance modes. -1 would usually be low to mid Z2 at comfortable cadence with shorter VO2 efforts being around a 1-2 resistance.

I started an easy Z2 ride today and instead of the normal resistance intervals, I’d -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, etc, it was at 10, 20, 30, etc. the jumps between them were huge. I had to ride at 10 at around 100 rpm to be at the bottom of my Z2 range (160-165) and when I bump to 20, it’d jump to like 220 watts at a measly 65 rpm. A massive jump.

I have absolutely no idea what caused the change in the resistance jumps. I’ve looked a bit through settings and online but empty handed so far. Hoping someone else has some familiarity with this.

Hey @Trix8806 !

It sounds like maybe the Garmin settings changed to Slope?

You could try checking:
On Garmin → Indoor Trainer → Training Options → Mode → set back to Resistance.

Re-test if the increments return to small steps (like -1/0/1).

If not, remove and re-pair the trainer to Garmin, then select Resistance mode again.
