Understanding Peter Sagan's Role (Tour Spoilers)

Because it smacks of a cheap and sketchy money grab…

@jmmetsar Yes! Forgot all about that one. Didn’t they name that Thomas Voeckler Commemorative Prize? Wait, I guess they changed the name back :stuck_out_tongue:

Too shay! (and just so we’re clear, that’s American for “touché” :stuck_out_tongue:

Sagan is the most exciting rider in the Peleton. The GC riders are boring to watch. They can climb but it’s more fun to watch a sprint finish than a 20k climb.

That’s why he get’s paid the money. I’m not sure after this TdF. He doesn’t seem to have it like he used to.

I take it the OP isn’t a Sagan fan.

Sagan’s achievements stand out. This is clear. However, he had his achievements during a time which lacked characters in cycling. This is different now, all the young guns like MvdP, WvA, Hirschi, Kämna and so on excite at a different level. No need for wheelies. Sagan is simply not cool anymore. And it can be noticed that he does not enjoy racing anymore. I feel a little bit sorry for Bora. They could use the money to close the gap to Ineos and JV.

Unofficially:
4. Land Art. Anthony and Simon have been giving scores to all the countryside land art.

Not to pile it on because I still loves me some Sagan, but that little move he did to WvA would have been completely acceptable just two years ago (and even encouraged 10 yrs ago). I feel like Sagan’s antics and fun personality (even among other members of the peloton) has allowed him to get away with a few things here or there. He’s no Robbie McEwen, but that quality that “gets him to just the right position at just the right time in the last kilometer” IS NOT his charisma.

He just has that “what?! Me? Noooooo…not me, bro” kind of thing. And then his handlebars are in front of yours. Oops.

I can agree with all that.

But currently I’m too enamoured with WvA sprint form to notice anything else.:laughing:

Absolutely (must be the INSCYD testing…lol :stuck_out_tongue:)

Let’s make it truly epic: “paging MvdP…Dr vdP, please come to the start line”

I’m a big WvA fan but Sagan is very exciting and has been for some time.

Die hard Sagan fan. That move on van Aert was nothing, but after the Jakobsen crash in Poland and the times we live in nowadays, I can see how that resulted in a relegation.

As for van Aert, dude is on fire. He’s got my vote as the current best rider in the world.
