Just to add another perspective. Im also prepping for 200+ mile event in june. I did ramp test tues and the event below sat. Then did my SS workout sunday and added 75 mins of Z2 after SS workout. I dont feel that my FTP is set to low.
Same power meter that you did the ramp test on?
Not the same, but not to much difference in them. I use kickr bike inside and have power on other bikes and have found them all to measure similar.
And?
So you can ride 97% of your FTP for nearly 3 hours? And then do sweet spot work the next dayā¦
And that looks like a 15min warmup with low power, so really thatās saying you did over your FTP for 2.5hrs. That doesnāt seem faulty to you?
Are you guys making sure your head units record 0ās (coasting)?
I was about to bring this up.
I need to check to see if Iām recording 0s
Sidenote, I do wonder how the new AT will handle stuff like this. Riding 97% of your FTP for 3hrs is not possible, full stop. Normalized power, average powerā¦best endurance cyclist in the worldā¦doesnāt matter.
So will it discard the ride completely as a data outlier? Will it accept it and put you as a level 10 threshold/sweet spot for all future workoutsā¦which would bury most. Will it suggest a 30w ftp increase? Will it flag it and tell you to check your devices for power discrepancies? Will it cross check your HR data with the power data and modify the ride in some way to still give you credit for the work? Will it recognize that your head unit isnāt reordering zeros and prompt you to change it?
Will be interesting to see what they come up with.
Just checked, I am recording zeros

Recording 0ās, didnāt calibrate on sat so probably it. Also curious how AT will handle this sorta stuff, Sorry for thread hijack!
What you guys doing to train for 200 miles? Im following mid volume but usually add a Z2 ride with misses sat and will be adding Z2 on Sundays after workout. Increasing milage on Sundays to 150 a few weeks out from event. Also in gym twice a week, run occasionally and swim for some relaxing recovery. Far from a triathlete though, only run to support CX needs!
I went though SSHV and now I am on General Build High volume. My goal is 9hours a week to as many hours as I can fit in. Also have a goal of a century 2 times a month and 2 170 mile rides prior to the event. I have 3 races prior to June 5th. Once the weather starts to break Ill start adding gravel rides once a week to dial in tire pressure
My Garmin says Iām recording zeros.
Putting my dunce cap on for this oneā¦
I likely found the issue for meā¦a big discrepancy between my Stages and my Kickr Core. I hadnāt done a spin down on my Kickr in at least 3 weeks and Iām pretty sure last time I actually shifted down the cassette to get to 24MPH (which I only remembered doing tonight during the spin down below). This would coincide with the start of a new block and when workouts started really feeling immensely hard for me. I donāt really pay attention to the workout, I just get on and pedal. That approach created the opportunity for this error.
In the middle of my workout tonight, I switched to using my Stages for power instead of the Kickr and 250W immediately felt like outside, whereas 250W from the Kickr felt like a bunch more (like 325 or 350W on the Stages). I immediately paused and calibrated my Stages as I had before starting and then did a spin down of the Kickr. I wasnāt using the same gearing in Erg mode for the spin down as I was for my workoutsā¦spin down in the smaller cogs and workout in the middle of the cassette. After the spin down in the same cog as I workout in, the Stages and Kickr felt the same. I left Power Match on (which I should have been doing to begin with). This would then lead me to believe that yes, my FTP is higher still. Iāll Ramp again on Thursday and report back.
TLDR: Iām a moron who now has a bunch of useless statistical history.
Donāt think your dumb. This stuff takes a ton of small steps to get right or wrong and then going back and figuring it out.
Will be interesting to see your new ramp.
Good news is I likely have a higher FTP, bad news is I likely have a higher FTPā¦(can I get in on the AT Closed Beta now?
)
Back on equipmentā¦got my DarkSpeedWorks 915D top tube bag tonight in the mail (along with a 483D for more average gravel usage). Pretty dope bags.
And a rad little all metal Garmin Varia 515 mount for tucking it up under my seat.
Thatās the worst thing, can I make it through these new workouts with my big new FTP
Sounds like double good news to me.
Remember, if you go in your calendar and click on each ride you can edit your FTP for each specific rideā¦so you could at least go in and backdate your FTP for your outside rides a bit so the TSS is more accurate for them.
Supposed to do 80 on gravel Tomorrow, but itās feeling like 60 will be all I have in the legs.
Legs are pretty shot from over unders 5x12 monday and vo2 6x5min today. I did 70 miles with 4K of climbing
Just made a spreadsheet for the rest of my weekend outdoor rides up until June 5thā¦Road or Gravel, distances and intensities. Glad to have that all planned out, fingers crossed for not too many rain days on the trainer instead. Lots of Z2 miles lined up with a couple organized road centuries and 2 more gravel races (including the Gravel Battle of Sumter Forest this weekend) to spice it up a bit.
Time is flying by.
88 days
I just got into a 200k gravel race with 13k
Climbing 2 weeks out from unbound. That should be the last big effort for me
Thatās a bunch of climbingā¦damn. Sounds rad.
Iām aiming at doing a race simulation May 8th, 150mi with 5000ā of climbing (best I can do down here). Gonna have my wife be my crew and try to replicate the big gap between Alma and Council Grove by stopping earlier around 65mi, then going the rest of the way on one water-only stop.
Iām also debating if I want to try and upgrade to Di2 beforehandā¦
