Has anyone had trouble doing a TR workout via Zwift on PC running Windows?
I’ve haven’t been able to do a TrainRoad workout via Zwift in two attempts now.
I don’t think this is a TrainerRoad issue but I’m hoping that your someone else may have ran into this or heard of this issue, I couldn’t find anything on the forums.
I have a Wahoo Kickr v5 and run Zwift on my PC running Windows 10.
This year I was doing my TR workouts via Zwift.
For my last four workouts when doing the workout the Power and cadence is all over the place.
Power is always 40+ watts over target and cadence goes straight to 69 no matter how slow or fast I pedal.
I’ve shut down and restarted the computer, reset Zwift, reset trainer, tried pairing the trainer via Bluetooth, Ant+ and Direct Connect to the home router no luck.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Zwift, no luck.
Turned off and on Race mode on Wahoo app, no luck.
Trainer, Zwift and pc firmware are all up to date.
Now when running the workout via the TR app I have no problem all is working normally.
Running Zwift on iPad I’m able to do the TR workouts.
I hoping that someone can help with because I was getting spoiled with the TR/Zwift Integration.
I’ve reach out to Zwift support but got a robot to repeat everything that I told it and waiting on Wahoo support but with an old Kickr I don’t know if I will get far.
I just looked back and I did TR workouts inside Zwift on Jan 3 and 4. I’ve been doing TdZ group rides the past couple of weeks so I’ve had to revert back to the old way of running the TR workout in the app and decoupling resistance in Zwift.
How are you connecting? Ant or BT? I see you’ve tried all possible combos, but what is normal?
Have you looked at your Windows Update log to see if there was anything done at the time things started acting up? I know there were some posts on the Zwift Forum about a Windows update causing connectivity issues with the Computrainer, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t affect other things, also.
Are you trying the same workout in all of this testing? I wonder if the workout definition is corrupt so maybe try to sync a different workout and load that up. I couldn’t see on my system where workout definitions are stored.
I’d also maybe look for log files in:
%username%\documents\zwift\logs
\Program Files (x86)\Zwift\
I had only 1 log file in the “logs” directory and had a few others in the Program Files main directory.
Last, you could try to run Zwift as an Administrator one time and see if maybe it’s trying to write somewhere or create a subdirectory that it can’t. This shouldn’t be necessary, but is easy enough to try.
Is zwift acting weird on regular rides or just an issue with TR workouts? It sounds like it’s an issue between the trainer and zwift if watts/cadence aren’t right. I’d be surprised if Zwift treated those things differently for a TR workout.
One thing I do with Zwift is connect everything via Ant+ rather than Bluetooth (I disable BT on my laptop when running Zwift). I find the Ant+ connections more reliable. I also use an Ant+ dongle on a long USB cable so that the dongle is very close to my power meter. I used to see weirdness when I just had the Ant+ dongle inserted in the laptop (which is only ~4ft away).
That’s really weird. The cadence being stuck could have implied an Rx problem. The power could have been Rx or Tx in a workout scenario or free ride but free rides are working fine for both. So it doesn’t seem like a low level comms issue at all. I’m interested in what you find.
Direct Connect might be your issue. Is it over Wifi? There does seem to be alot of chatter around ERG mode instability over DC. Seems like that’s the issue that you see here in that it’s not engaging ERG mode - maybe due to connection drops which could also give you the static values issue with cadence that you saw. Try going back to ANT+?
Interesting, I can’t imagine why it would connect differently for TR stuff, but obviously something is different. For what it’s worth, I did TR workouts in Zwift on Tuesday and yesterday and everything worked fine.
Wow, frustrating. Given that you’ve installed, uninstalled, updated, checked firmware, etc. and the fact everything works on your iPad and not your laptop….sounds like a connection issue of some sort with your laptop.
Zwift did an update about a week and a half ago and TR did one the other day….perhaps something went haywire there? Was everything working before that?
As for your initial question, I do all of my TR workouts in Zwift, four a week, and I’ve had no issues.
I can’t see the rest of your screen (and not sure it would tell me anything), but is it possible that you’ve somehow switched from erg mode to incline mode, and you need to control the power yourself (by changing gears and/or cadence), as opposed to the trainer automatically adjusting the resistance?
