TSS/Load per hour for endurance / zone 2 rides

Hi,

Do you guys target any TSS / Load per hour for endurance rides? I am currently in my base period, and ideally I would like to fill as much riding on my endurance days as possible, but am having difficulties if I should target fx. 35 or 45 for endurance rides?

Would a good baseline just be between 35 and 40?

BR

Yes but also effort - you want to avoid sustained periods in threshold and above, and big anaerobic efforts altogether if you can. I wouldn’t target TSS at all but focus on riding easy.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for your reply! Currently I am doing around 80-100 minutes per week in what you could call zone 3, with 0 anaerobic stints. I am planning to build my base quite drastically, so keeping recovery in check has been my nr 1 prirority.
I am currently sitting on 16-18 hour weeks, but feel like I could go a bit / just a bit harder on the endurance part

Personally I’d play around with extending Zone 2 (Not Zone 3) but going higher in Zone first. You’re trying to stay below your Aerobic Threshold but push longer durations.

I don’t ever use a TSS target as that can be misleading. I look for Time in Zone, Time Under Tension trying to keep consistent (boring) Z2 Efforts for as long as I have time for without impacting my weekly interval workouts.

If you don’t have time to add, are already getting in 2 or 3 higher intensity workouts in a week, then you can keep progressing the Z2 Higher, but you’re going to run into a fatigue limiter somewhere.
