Trek-Segafredo rider shoots and kills innocent cat

Absolutely disgusting.

I expected the team to cancel the contract for good and not just suspend him for 20 days.

Maybe he got the memo from Enve wrong about taking “a few shots with the MOG”?..

It’s BS that they won’t drop him for killing an innocent animal.

I’m getting kinda tired of Trek handling these idiots with kid gloves…cancel their contracts, FFS.

I’m not usually one for canceling job contracts for outside incidents but WTF? Who shoots and kills a cat? This guy should lose more than his job.

Reprehensible.

He shouldn’t have his life ruined for accidentally killing a cat. I have no issues with suspension.

Accidental?

I know it says “unitentional” but rarely do I “accidentally” discharge a firearm towards my neighbour’s cat.

I can see how maybe it was his first air rifle and didn’t know how strong it was.

Regardless… You don’t point it at a cat. Pretty basic stuff.

Tiberi – who was fined £4,000 for the incident – has issued a lengthy statement on his Instagram page apologising, describing his actions as “tremendously stupid and irresponsible”. He said he had no intentions of killing the animal.

What, was he trying to shoot it in the leg in self-defense? Even apart from the obvious animal cruelty (which is a lot to set aside), it shows such a stupefying lack of judgement I can’t imagine putting him in a position where anyone has to rely on him to make good decisions about anything.

This was a very dumb thing to do. And cruel, let’s not forget that.

Having read his comments, I do think he is genuinely remorseful. He says quite a bit, and with seems like his own words, not some short CYA statement written by a PR person.

He also says he will volunteer at local shelters (though I guess nobody will follow up on that to verify it happens).

What a scumbag and weak team and brand.

Trek as a team seem to have limited ethics and morals.

Even if they don’t think it justifies a contract termination if I was on the team I would really struggle to work with him. Even if you didn’t think it would kill the cat it would at the very least hurt and why would I need to hurt it?

I’m shocked that the previous sponsors of Lance Armstrong may have questionable ethics and morals

I love cats and believe he’s a dumb cruel jerk but he got his punishment and he should not be ruined for this one thing

Been holding off posting something along these lines, couldn’t decide between this thread or ’ What are your unpopular cycling opinions?’

Happily omnivorous. If he killed it for food, we’d be having a different conversation. And it’d probably be even more entertaining.
