TrainNow giving workouts with a low PL

I thought I’ve seen this before but can’t find a post about it.

When I got into Train Now the workouts it’s giving me are of low PL, like 1.0 on some Endurance and Sweetspot workouts.

My Anarobic level is 6.9 but Train Now recommends a 4.0 workout.

Not sure what it’s looking at or if it’s confused.

Likely so your fatigue doesn’t go too high and wreck your mesocycle.

If you feel up for it, you can override. Just don’t come back in a month and say TR burned you out.

It’ll give me endurance/Recovery workouts well below my endurance PL when AI wants me to recover.

Ok I get that but then why for the same day the training plan that I’m on is giving me a productive level workout?

I just wanted to do something different than what’s on my training plan.

Also it was a simple question, no need for your extra.

Your training plan and TrainNow are not set to the same goals. Your plan targets some long term goal you defined for yourself and orients your work load towards this goal.

Meanwhile, TrainNow does not plan for the future but only provides you the best selection with general fitness in mind for the moment is triggered.

As the goals of the workouts don’t align, neither do the workouts. For the long term target it may be better to push through the current fatigue and work towards a later recovery phase.

If you want to try something else, you can always give the alternates to your current workout a try. That should be the best option for your plan. If that isn’t what you are looking for, just run the TN workout and let the plan adapt itself accordingly. As long as it’s only one workout, it will very likely not influence the success of the plan very much - unless you do something absolutely crazy.

Thank you for this explanation. Right now my training plan has me doing a bunch of Vo2 workouts that I don’t feel is helping, I was hoping to use TrainNow to replace the Vo2 with Sweet spot work that was picked by AI, I now see that it may not be possible.

If that’s the build or specialty phase of your plan, you will see impact from those kind of workouts. That’s what will push your fitness the most after you built the necessary foundation during the base. You hopefully already see a steady increase in your progression levels.

If you were to switch to sweet spot now (which you naturally can, but maybe shouldn’t), you will continue building you base fitness further but not necessarily reach the ultimate peak you plan was oriented towards.

Personal, subjective example: In my most recent plan, I’ve been jumping from FTP increase to increase during the VO²max and Anaerobe-heavy specialty phase.

Ok, I’m in Specialty Phase of the CX plan, my first season with TR.

The Phase started on 8/19 and goes to 12/6, all this time has me doing one Anaerobic and two Vo2 workouts per week.

I’ve been completing all assigned workouts as per the plan but starting to wonder if the lack of longer lower power target workouts is hurting me in CX races.

Personally, I do lack the experience with CX to know which power zones would be most relevant to those kinds of races. Just going by spectator knowledge, these races look like you’d have a rather spiky power graph - which is what the VO²max and Anaerobe workouts prepare you for.

Also keep in mind that by increasing the overall fitness, those workouts will also increase the power you can sustain over a longer period of time.

If you’d like more input for CX-specific training, maybe start another topic asking for this directly, so others with more experience in these events have an easier time finding your questions.

Right now, it looks like it’s giving you a 5.0 VO2 workout..

I’m not sure why you might have been seeing 1.0s before. If that happens again, let me know!

 Maybe it was because of the day. Monday’s is usually my rest day and I raced this last Sunday.

I was checking TrainNow yesterday to see if I could replace a workout from one power zone with a different one while still letting the AI decide the best workout.
Good to see the levels are back to normal, thanks Eddie.
