Trainnow - Discipline focus?

Hey guys

Coming back from a summer hiatus and back into structured training for the next 7 month, as usual I have lost a bit of FTP and PL’s have plummeted.

Thought I would give TrainNow a go this time round as my schedule is constantly all over the place regarding availability.

Does TrainNow have any particular discipline in mind when assigning workouts? (Specifically the recommended one) as you can when setting training plans.

Ive done two since rejoining (All PL’s went under 2.0) & the two its assigned so far are:

Truchas +1:

Seymour #1:

Now both workouts were completed, and both do-able, not near the limit etc (aside from Seymour giving me two episodes of short lived knee pain which is something else entirely)

But for the first two workouts with those PL’s, are these not somewhat aggressive in their ramp up? (e.g. 1.0 to 8.3 for Anaerobic)

Good question @G7NXX

TrainNow doesn’t follow a specific plan discipline in the way a custom training plan does.

Instead, the prescribed workouts are based on the intensity and stress of your recent rides and workouts. It’s not intended to replace a training plan, but it’s a quick and simple way to make sure you’re completing a sustainable mix of workouts. For instance, if you have recently completed some tough VO2 Max workouts, you’ll likely see an Endurance workout recommended.

In terms of Progression Levels, this works the same way as our workout recommender for custom training plans. A while ago, we made some improvements to this model, and we now think our athletes are getting much better workout recommendations. Try to ignore the jumps in PLs if you can and focus on giving each workout your best effort.

As you’ve found out, even some of those high-level workouts are doable. We’re really confident in what we’re recommending, so trust the system! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
