I’m writing this since I’ve been riding my bikes more often, longer and faster than ever before, hitting personal bests on Strava left and right, but the current AI-prediction is -6.4 %.
My personal goal is basically described above: Do long rides, faster. And be able to repeat that several days in a row. Crossing the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean checking off all the big summits. Or bikepacking 1400 km across central Europe in a week.
The current goal is set to “FTP-increase” (balanced), however, every time I hit the road (weekend, no rain) instead of doing a prescribed training, TR doesn’t adapt the training around those outdoor rides, it simply says: Too bad, next FTP will be 8 Watts lower.
My question: Is there any of the goals available for training plans more fit for my needs than FTP-increase? Or is my training volume simply too low?
P.S. My current AI FTP is 284 at 80 kg. I’m sure that’s not anywhere near a point where anything but the most optimized training will affect fitness negatively.
I’m sure you get a lot of responses as to what plan is best for your travels.
I will just state a fact. TR has never been good at incorporating outdoor rides. It’s a program designed for indoor workouts on a trainer. They are trying to improve on getting outdoors rides to not lower your “TR AI FTP.
Thanks. Very unfortunate. Just yesterday I had my fastest 100 km ride (by a wide margin), smashing old PRs by the dozens. And AI predicts -17 Watts. The whole point of AI prediction to optimize training intensity seems pretty broken, if it only works on the trainer (that is, during winter).
there’s a known outdoor workout glitch with FTP prediction right now, a quick forum search and you’ll find the big thread. its an issue they’ve been trying to fix for months. I have temporarily turned off AI FTP prediction and have been manually adjusting based on how my workouts have felt over the past couple of weeks. its far from ideal but is a workaround for now
@bluescatjm is right. We currently have a bug that’s affecting AI FTP Predictions and Detection for athletes who ride outside. It’s our top priority at the moment, and we’re hoping to have a fix out soon.
If you’re performing well, I’d assume that your fitness is improving. A dropping FTP is a symptom of this bug, and it’s likely not accurate for you right now.
The main goal for the time being is to ensure that your training feels appropriate. If your workouts feel as they should, then you should be on a good track. If your workouts are consistently too hard or too easy, let me know and I’ll take a closer look and help you get back on track.
