TrainerRoad Outside Workouts Now Push to Garmin Edge šŸŽ‰

:+1: wheeling and dealing!

Made a quick search and couldn’t find the answer…

Is there a way to ā€œpauseā€ an interval without pausing the ride on Garmin? I’m asking because sometimes it takes just a little more seconds to get to the bottom of a climb to start the next interval and I would like to pause the interval until I get to the said point and then restart for the next interval.

No. Instead of pausing just restart the interval, assuming ā€œa little more secondsā€ means you get back to the bottom of climb before the interval finishes.

Or consider creating a workout ā€œsnippetā€ to both review the workout and controlling it for the route. For example instead of doing TIMED 8-min climbs with 5-min recoveries:

make the recoveries a lap button press:

Reviewing and creating the intervals in Garmin Connect (web or mobile) only takes me a couple of minutes at lunch, and then I do the workout in the late afternoon.

Are these outside workouts that don’t have a need to press the lap button to start the next interval? Most i do require this. Maybe it’s worth contacting support, if you think lap presses should be added for a particular outdoor version.

As already said, you can restart an interval on a 530 - not sure for others

Ah! Gonna try this one out! Thank you

Yes this one was a VO2 max workout so it makes sense that I shouldnt have to press LAP to start the next interval since intervals are so small (1:30 ON / 1;00 rest). Its just that the small hill that I used for that workout wasnt optimal. It took a little more than the rest time to get to the bottom (maybe an extra 10seconds) but I’ll def look into the ā€œrestart intervalā€ function. I doubt it’s available to my 520 tho. Time for a new head unit perhaps? Haha

I attempted an outdoor workout for the second time. I will say lots of little quirks in getting things to work. Garmin connect, my iphone 11 and edge 520 dont seem to like each other to sync wirelessly. Anyways after some battles with the tech, adding outdoor workouts in TR and re syncing finally got the workout on my Edge 520. It really shouldnt be this hard…but this just seems for me to be syncing wirelessly doesnt work great to push the workout. Definitely works very cleanly connecting the 520 to my computer and syncing that way.

Round 2 was to start the workout. So today was an easy ride to test this out. Carter 45 minutes. The text messages were clear on the garmin.

So I start the workout…and the screen shows me what to do. Not sure why then I needed to preset a Garmin screen as they described as I didnt use it. Must be missing something here. It was a very easy workout so I am not really concerned about anything other than power.

Do my first interval which seemed to go fine. Not sure I am recalling correctly but think I needed to hit the lap button to move onto the next interval. Things go fine for the next intervals but on the next to last interval I must of hit the button in a manner that skipped an interval. I saw the message for the watts and time on what to do but the screen had moved along into cooldown lap. Didnt see anything I could do to go back to the prior interval that I should of been on. Was just a bit confusing but took it easy and finished the workout with the targets generally in the right range. Overall effort was more TSS from doing it outside vs riding inside.

Overall I think I need to be very picky on what I want to do outside as I do find outside requires more concentration if I am having to deal with intersections. This workout was an easy ride to get me used to it. Outdoor workouts while I get the TR premise still feel better for me to do my own structured limits. I intend to try another type of workout this week and see how it goes.

How do you restart an interval on a 530? Only ever think about it when Im in the middle of it and then its too late

press the upper right button and you’ll get a menu with an option to restart, picture here:

If i recall correctly, you press the top right button on the 530, and one of the menu options is to restart the latest interval

Missed that @bbarrera had already replied

I did the whole fat finger thing and mashed the lap button on the weekend (I was in the box) and managed to double press it. I realised I had blown past a rest cycle and was now starting a new repeat so tried the top right button which did bring up a menu but no ā€œRestart Stepā€ option.
There was a ā€œRestart Workoutā€ option - any idea what I’ve done wrong. It wasn’t the first time I’ve skipped a step and I’m sure it wont be the last so would be good to sort out what to do

I was outside tonight and played around with pausing and restarting an interval. One thing I noticed is the controls (restart, pause, etc) are only available on the 530’s built-in workout page. In other words, the controls were not available on any other page except for the built-in workout page.

Cheers, I think I should do the same and have a play when I’m not in the middle of a workout

I had a lot of time to play with the 530, my workout yesterday was 4 sets of 4x15-second sprint intervals. A lot of time at zone2  to recharge the battery before sprinting another set, plus more than an hour of zone2 before and after the intervals.

Worked for me pre the garmin ransom ware thing, but didn’t work the other day but I only gave it two hours :-/

Hi, when selecting a workout for outside, how long should it take to push to Garmin?

I know I can schedule the workouts for outside in advance, and it will push 2 days before, but if I decide today I want to do my workout outside, it’s currently taking hours to appear on my Garmin, which usually means I’ve missed my workout window, so I have to stay on the trainer. I’m sure in the past it would push fairly instantly, but now it’s taking hours.

TIA.

Mike

I find that if you open Garmin Connect on your phone when it is connected to your 530, the workout will appear in a minute or two. If it doesn’t, i force a sync and it appears

Thanks. I have tried that as well, but it still doesn’t appear on my 1030.
