I have a question or hope for this new AI. CUrrently when I add a block of time to my calendar, like a business trip that keeps me from training, all the AI does is bump everything. I just added a weeklong work trip to my calendar, at the end of January, and it happened to be week 4, a recover week of that block. So all it did was bump the recovery week to after my week of work travel. Should it not be able to anticipate and expect the week of travel to essentially be a recovery week? Currently I have to manually delete all my recovery week workouts and move up the next training block by a week.
Or am I missing something? Is there a way to tell the AI to make the week a recovery week? I realize it is not an ideal recovery week. Sure there is stress related to travel, but it is not much compared to training.
I just don’t tell it I’ll be gone. I use the “add note” function so there’s something on my calendar as a reminder but that’s it.
I agree with you that it would be great if there was a way to say yeah, I’ll be away but can still do my recovery week rides or want to treat it as a rest week with no workouts and not come back to a recovery week
I guess I don’t know what you’re talking about then. I’ve driven my PLs over 9.0 a couple of times and it’s always resulted in small FTP bumps. Possible I missed the post you’re talking about.
So it looks like TR AI is live. I was due an FTP update and was kinda shocked at the 4% drop. I’ve been sick for a while but didn’t think I dropped this much. Guess I have some good headroom to grow this season.
I’ve been sick for a few weeks and ended the year with nothing but walks. Mine dropped pretty significantly too, which I saw as a great way to ease me back in. Happy training!
I was tempted to drop it myself considering her said a way to hack into doing higher PL workouts is to lower it. This ripped the bandaid off for me haha.
But I reminded myself, it’s only a training number, just go with it just like I did when it dropped me a few watts at a time several detections in a row last summer. Not looking forward to 90% sweetspot workouts feeling like 95%. Buckle up, kiddo!
Recovery week coming up (after a silly long ride this weekend), so I’ll have some time to digest it all.
It wants me back in the mid-6s pretty much straight away, notably with Eclipse on Monday week 2, which on the surface seems reasonable (& it will almost certainly be changed by then), but this is uncharted territory for me so it’s a bit daunting. S’pose I just gotta go with it.
As an aside, the highest scoring SS workout I’d passed as of yesterday was Geiger +4, then rated at 7.2, now rated on my calendar as 7.0, so something else got me to 7.7. Looks like a lot of workouts have had their PLs re-jigged. Perhaps this also means WLv2 was very quietly released along with it.
Just tried it. Calendar UI is a bit buggy, sometimes it fails to load an AI selected workout. And it can generate some weird selections, like Wright Peak, which is 5 levels above my current SS PL. Deleting and retrying or restarting the app can help.
I also get some dropped frame rates on the calendar view on an M4 Mac, I think it’s caused by a virtualised scroll list you might use? When there are multiple workouts stacked in a day the estimated row height doesn’t match actual and it causes some jumping or expensive re-render.
When I was doing in the past, before AI-TR, longer outsides I could interchange the planned TR-Workout into a longer ride with higher TSS to match the TSS of the outside ride. The progression level was than showing the real progress instead of the planned progress.
Now with AI-TR it seems not possible to interchange the planned workout into a workout with higher TSS?
My expectation of the AI-TR was, that it would count the reals done work to the progression level and the TSB. Maybe it does update the internal TSB, but not sharing the info?
The last 6 months of leaving the thinking up to TR, I’m a completely different cyclist. It’s at the point now, every time I go out on a hard group ride or completing interval training, I’m getting power PB not including just feeling a lot stronger. I think a lot of people that are not seeing gains are actually fighting against the system. Another key note for all of the TR family and any new potential riders, you can’t judge your training based on a weekly group or event in the middle of a training plan. On our Saturday group ride, I sometimes get dropped or struggling, but that’s my third quality rides of the week with two hard interval days while some of the guys are riding for the first time that week or the first hard ride with fresh legs. However, if you’re peaking for an event, those same guys get dropped in the first half of the event when everyone has fresh legs.
Trust the system. When you get less time prescribed to train by the app, take that time for strength training, yoga, meal planning, and recovery. Don’t do your easy ride with a group either. I use those rides to work on getting more aero on the bike. In a group, it’s too easy to end up on a hard ride.
One more tip that has helped me, looking for workouts with on-screen instruction. The tips have made me more comfortable with the things my body is feeling on the ride, my breathing, and pedaling.
The new AI FTP detection increased my FTP from 285 to 306 W. I was pretty skeptical and worried I would fail the new workouts but so far so good. Today I completed a SS 6.8 workout (4 x 13 min at 288W) and rated it 7/10. Prior to that my last SS workout was a SS 5.4 (2 x 20 min at 262W) and I rated that 4/10. It does seem the AI model knew what I could do better than me.
