Thanks! I hadn’t seen that, but it makes complete sense that the updates would only be on the cycling bits.
To get on my soapbox - My personal crusade on this forum for years now has been to make the run workouts pushable to watches like every other platform out there. Would love to eliminate the app subscription I have only to build the TR run workouts and send them to the watch…
Nate one of the annoying things with the program is the once in a while FTP drop when you’re following the workouts to a T.
Now are these just visual bugs and the background wattages in TR system are still the same or are these really bugs and it’s worth reaching out to support?
Thanks, I’m just trying to see if i can save the support ticket in the future.
@Kendogz161 Yah, an FTP drop is always annoying. Mine is so low I can’t afford to drop much at all.
But I suspect it could have to do with other factors beyond just faithfully completing every workout. For instance how you respond to the post-workout survey, or your HR. Not saying this is the case, but it seems logical that if you are breezing through every workout vs fighting through every workout (to use extremes) you may see diffiferent adjustments in FTP.
I had times where I’ve been feeling really good for the month, surprising myself on workouts and have to hold back on the outdoor endurance rides to not push it.
Then come AiFTP detection time I get a drop.
I’ve wondered if TR does this because it wants to give you workouts at a higher Progression Level or if it’s really a bug.
Doesn’t happen all the time, most of the time it’s the normal 1-3% FTP increase.
This is a great post and provides great background on AI FTP. I like the way you all approached the problem:
What we’re doing is finding the right watts for you first, then adjusting FTP so your progression levels land in the right place and you can continue progressing.
Lots of goodness here, and I’m looking forward to the update. I already feel like I’m progressing significantly with TrainerRoad in many ways, but that it is not being reflected well as a singular metric like FTP.
Also, if the AI FTP number can instantly change this much for some athletes, and the mapping into workout selection is also somewhat changing, I think TrainerRoad is going to need all-hands on deck because the forums will probably light up like a Christmas tree.
There’s going to need to be a lot of user education around the new features - web pages, YouTube videos, Podcast discussions, blog posts, forum posts, etc. And there’s bound to be bugs/corner cases which are going to need support response and engineering fixes. I feel like it’s going to be an exciting start to 2026 for TR employees!
The cool thing about this update is you can see what your FTP will be before you do your training. So you can see if you’re not doing enough volume or too much and how that would make your FTP stay the same.
Not sure what you mean about the bugs. Yes it’s good to report the bugs here in this thread.
Yes we need to do more education around this. We’re also getting a sample bias because the people that are questioning it are only the ones with big jumps. And these are the people that really have high PLs, which is the minority.
Totally understand the Swim and Run workouts aren’t dynamic - makes total sense given the platform is more cycling-centric. I would volunteer as tribute to test this beta if you need someone
This was something I experienced with AIFTP back in September of this year. I was at 231 ftp and was feeling really good with my workouts a weekend rides, even holding back some.
When it came for my detection I believe it wanted to drop me back to 222, which didn’t feel right.
I reached out to support and in the mean time performed a 20 minute test because that’s what I was comfortable with.
The test bumped me up to 239 which I feel if would have been about right considering where I was.
When support got back to me they told me that there was a bug and gave me the workout Marion just to verify that new FTP.
I have wondered what would have happened if I would as accepted the lower FTP and just used the workouts and surveys to bring it back up.
Also props to the support staff at TR, they are legends.
That’s interesting. What does this mean for the whole we don’t adjust FTP during Specialty? Since FTP is cosmetic, I guess this means that, in Specialty, the AI is biased to pick harder workouts at a somewhat lower power?
