It doesn’t hit 100 in Paris, it often reaches 30 though.
Nope. I even got French emergency alerts that it was over 100. I was surprised. They must know they have to dumb it down for me.
Pogacar’s race sense and positioning is exceptional, but I’m wondering when a crash or sickness will hit and possibly end his dominant streak. All the other big GC contenders have had plenty of bad luck, so surely it’s only a matter of time before ill fortune strikes.
The beauty of having to remember units.
Hint: In Paris the normal unit for degrees is Celsius.
I’m aware. But I was an American speaking to an American and using a nice round number.
I cant see anyone other than Pog winning. I hope I’m wrong I want to see a decent challenger to make it interesting!
Of note, it’s far cooler today with lower humidity, and temps are supposed to continue to drop daily. In any measure.
That’s what they kept saying in Vegas when I was there: ‘Tomorrow will be cooler, a break from the heat’, but the next day, it was more of the same. I literally felt like I was in a convection oven from when I was a cook. You open the doors and the dry heat was shocking that it hit with such force. WHOOSH No kidding…
What’s your over-under on when Pog takes yellow? The first real climbing day/summit finish isn’t till stage 12. But stages 2, 4, 6, 7 and 10 are all quite lumpy, similar to an Ardennes classic, and we know Pog is pretty OK at those. Tactically it’d make sense for him to let someone else babysit the jersey through the first 1.5 weeks, but Pog is not known for laying back when there’s a race to be won….
And a separate over-under: How many total wearers of the yellow jersey will we see? I’m hoping 4-5, but could see a “Giro 2024” scenario where Pog takes it on stage 2 and never gives it up.
There are exceptions - see Lance who beat the field 7 straight times, which shows it is possible to be major crash / sickness free through consecutive tours.
Pog is also smashing it in Flanders, Roubaix, Strade Bianche etc adding to chances of crash
unlikely. If it isn’t a breakaway rider then Remco might hold it from the stage 5 tt until stage 12
Far too much chaos in the first ten stages to make a realistic early prediction though
Celsius is also an SI unit, though for some unfathomable reason, Fahrenheit is not.
*unfathomable is not an SI adjective.
I don’t see the race really start, until after the TT. Anyone needing to make up time can do so in the moderate hilly next few stages. I think the main contenders will let the yellow jersey go until the first mountain stage. Unless someone feels the need to do some grandstanding.
.. . ( Pogi )
Barring a crash, I see Remco coming out of the first ITT in the yellow jersey
Perhaps not, but I prefer to use fathoms to measure ocean depth.
It’s because of the insufferable “would have killed puppies to win a bike race” attitude that Lance is persona non grata.
BlockquoteAnd I’m a fan of Lance as a bike racer (more so than most of the other dopers of the era). He wasn’t nearly as dominant as Pogacar on the bike, but he was pretty smart with building a team and executing a grand tour. He brought it all on himself, but I still think he got screwed when you see people like Indurain being celebrated and keeping their wins while Lance is exiled because he got caught.
IDK, so I asked ChatGPT and got:
Projected Top 10 GC Standings (as of July 2, 2025)
Position | Rider | Team |
---|---|---|
1 | Tadej Pogačar | UAE Team Emirates-XRG |
2 | Jonas Vingegaard | Visma-Lease a Bike |
3 | Remco Evenepoel | Soudal-QuickStep |
4 | João Almeida | UAE Team Emirates |
5 | Adam Yates | UAE Team Emirates |
6 | Carlos Rodríguez | Ineos Grenadiers |

8 | Primož Roglič | Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe |
9 | Florian Lipowitz | Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe |

I’m partial to the Rømer scale.
At some point, it just ends up ‘too deep’… Lower than 10 fathoms and it becomes very serious.
