Also, for laughs:
I thought this part of the race in particular was a goat show for JV. I think VG got on 4 different bikes in a span of 60 seconds.
well i don’t think anyone would defend the team UAT brought. I think you got to give Pog credit for getting on the pointy end and taking thing as much into his hands as possible.
I enjoyed watching him try to ride a bike that was so big for him that he couldn’t pedal seated!
Ha, he was super-tucked on a flat road.
No one with a sane mind would question Pog’s achievement today. This is not the point.
btw - according to procyclingstats Bettiol has a contract with EF for 2023 and Stuyven with Trek even until 2025. Therfore, unlikely that they sign with UAE for next year.
Pushed hard until the line. For no reason. Pog was clearly wasted, did not lead in the last km. GC group would have caught them if Stuyven had only done a few courtesy pulls. Just re-watch the last km.
holy shit hahaha
also: I can’t wait for that Netflix show
Yup…Best defense is a good offense…Pog doesn’t need a team when he can just ride everyone off his wheel. yeah, he may have bit off a bit more than he could chew today, but he still gained time on a day when many thought he would be vulnerable.
This is not the first time Rog has dislocated his shoulder, and put it back in himself. It also happened at Paris-Nice last year on that last stage. Here’s the man himself talking about it: https://twitter.com/itvcycling/status/1544714776084881409?s=21&t=YRKqTu1Ta_MsDSQsnaP65w
So it begins… Roglic crashes and drops in GC. Jack Haig DNF. Nairo in yellow one step closer…
Thank god someone did this…perfect.
He disproved it by being one of the only real GC threats not to lose it today. Process of elimination.
Really mixed feelings on this stage. I know this one was hyped up by many but the criticism was always whether it’s worth upending an entire 3 week race over a single stage that is more dependent on luck and chance than fitness or skill. Of course riding cobbles is a skill and equipment choice matters, but you also have BS like a hay bale in the road and way higher probability of random crashes in the field taking you out.
I love the Tour and I wish I could maintain my enthusiasm through the Pogcar era but honestly I just don’t find the prospect of every year being a 3 week battle over sloppy seconds to be that interesting.
But that had nothing to do with the cobbles…that could have happened on any road stage where they have the hay bales around roundabouts…IOW almost any road stage.
Not exactly…he went out and raced it today…it wasn’t like he was just sitting in and watching guys fall all around him. Also, Thomas, Yates and others did not have any issues…they just couldn’t keep the pace, it seems.
The camera motorbike hit the hay bale and put it on the road.
Right…like I said, it had nothing to do with the cobbles. Could have happened on any other road stage.
The more I look at the replays and social media commentary on the Bettiol move, I’m just dumbfounded. I can understand if you’re one of the random Pro-Conti teams and Pog offers to pay you for a pull, but to screw your own teammates out of possible yellow and stage win while fighting for enough UCI points to stay WT…that’s pretty low. And he’s still under contract with EF for next year. EF should just send him home now unless there’s a good explanation.
