Tour de France 2021! (spoilers)

It’s a team sport, I’ve never seen anyone win a stage alone… Maybe Jacky Durand…

Sagan is pretty close to ‘wind him up and let him go’. Bora might work to get him to the last 10km but he’s way more of an opportunistic rider.

Cav has some scavenger victories as well

We’ll see what Sagan does with his new team…

For anyone who’s debating whether someone is winning on their own or being carried by the team

Morkov proving time and time again that if you stick to his wheel, you’ll just win the bike race. What an outstanding and consistent team mate. Hall of Famer no doubt.

Let’s not overlook he’s as old as Cav as well. Legendary performances by both of them.

Alright…someone had to do this… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I was waiting for that.

Eddy did it in a different time. He couldn’t do what he did today.

It’s like comparing Fangio to Senna to Schumacher to Hamilton. Or Babe Ruth to anyone today. Sports evolve.

Agreed 100%…which is why I don’t think the records are close to being comparable.

I don’t know about that, though.

I don’t think you can compare and I personally don’t want to, since I enjoy both riders immensely but since a good meme can’t go unaswered

Also, lmao Merckx flexing with this quote

To be honest I think fans & pundits care a whole of a lot more about this record than either of the guys who actual hold it.

Yeah, Eddy’s statement was less than gracious. I don’t seem to recall him issuing similar statements when -7 “broke” his all-time Tour wins record (or when Big Mig tied it, etc).

He came off as really curmudgeony with that.

I’m a fan, but I’m pretty sure when you look up Merckx in the thesaurus, the first synonym is “ curmudgeony”.

“I’m not mad that Cav is tied with me but I’m mad because I still think I’m superior”. What a jackass

Seems like a lot of ex-pros turn into old curmudgeons.

Except Bradley Wiggins, who apparently turned into Conor McGregor instead.

His motorcycle commentary is hilarious though:

I was slightly worried that Morkov was going to win by accident.

I’m a Wiggins fan, but he’s turned into a different type of curmudgeon.

He constantly jumps to the defence of riders (and ineos especially) and everyone who has a different opinion is just a pack of a$$holes.

Edited to add: that was exciting! I was so pleased to see Cav get there. I also was worried they’d lost it through the king left hander.

His bike throw was a risky move. I guess he was hedging DQS’ bets, but he came alarmingly close to pipping Cav.
