Took 2 weeks off, Custom plan didnt adapt

im in my 2nd of a 2 week break after 9 months of structure. i use the custom plan which prescribes blocks consisting of 3 weeks on followed by a recovery/low vol endurance week. Due to the timing of my break, my first week back is a recovery week before commencing base 3 the following week. i was thinking it might adapt and give me a lower TSS week but still including the threshold and sweetspot workouts to ease me back in before getting right back to it the next week. The way its set up it kind of feels like im taking a 3 week break. is this ideal? i appreciate any insight

In my experience it is not going to dramatically change this recovery week into what you want through adaptations. You can use train now or just pick things you want to do instead as a way to ramp back up. But this recovery week is kind of locked in. It doesn’t necessarily know you are suddenly back after 2 weeks off and what you want to do with this time.

It’s a pet peeve of mine too. I get why they do it, but I wish it would adapt instead. As mentioned above, I just use TrainNow to fix it.

It’s not uncommon for any of us to return from time off with fatigue of some sort. Travel can be stressful in many ways, so we don’t automatically assume that you’ll be completely well-rested upon your return.

I know that sometimes you’d like things to look a bit different, and we’re considering that moving forward, but for now, workarounds like what @mrtopher1980 and @Pbase mentioned are solid options.

I think this is a remaining limitation of the TR AI: It can’t be empowered to move weeks or even workouts around. A rest week is always a rest week, and a recovery/endurance day is always a recovery/endurance day.

I’d love it if it would ask whether time off should be considered “rest,” then change around the mesocycle to accommodate, e.g. count time off as the rest week and get me back to training when I return.

I’d also love similar flexibility within training weeks. Like, if I have to miss an intensity day, suggest that I replace a subsequent recovery day with an intensity workout (if this makes sense with the rest of my week.) I tend to do this manually, but feels like something the AI could be allowed to at least suggest.
