This crazy workout destroy me

Today I had my first unusual, very hard workout in 2 months. Has anyone done this workout in full?
3 threshold-anaerobic intervals of 20 minutes each with only 3 minutes of recovery. I think it’s impossible.

those are tough, I looked back and have done it twice, I did them both last year a few weeks apart. The first time I took a few breaks, rated it intensity, the second time I nailed it.

I think the threshold workouts take some time to get used too, but you should be able to complete these with practice. Also you need to be mentally ready and carbed up for these types of workouts. For me its the VO2 Max workouts that destroy me, Elephants +2 is one that I really dislike.

I can imagine that if one’s FTP is set even slightly optimistically, then it could be hard or impossible.

This would defeat me at my current fitness level, but curiosity makes me want to have a go at it

A few weeks ago I had the Big Craggy prescribed which is the same workout but a bit longer. I could do the work intervals but in the 3rd set had to lenghten some of the 1 minute recoveries. So absolutely an all out effort. The week after I had a much easier time with a 6.0 PL th workout…

If you look around in the workout library, 1:30 long th workouts with 122TSS and 0.9 IF are around 6.0 PL. So in my opinion these kind of workouts has their PLs set way too low. Probably thats why they feel almost impossible to complete when prescibed by the AI.

Welcome to the forum @Duba_Poll & @gjely!

The Dragontail workouts can definitely be tough, but fortunately, there are -2 and -1 versions for those who want to work their way up to the big one.

There is some specificity to the work, so these aren’t ones you’ll likely see too often, and keep in mind that Workout Levels are more than just TSS and IF. The structure of the work can make one workout feel completely different than another with the same details.
