No, not too long.
I’m not finding it too long personally, but I appreciate the point! Maybe tone down the marketing stuff…
No. It’s a podcast. Pause skip whatever at your leisure. They are also breaking down segments into YouTube videos so if you wanted to get info on something but skip the rest there you go. Because you can do what you want with it, the complaint about length really doesn’t make sense to me.
The Podcast : Is it too long?
No.
/Thread
It’s a fair question but I personally like the substance and approach of these Podcasts.
Yes, much preferred shorter more concise episodes. So much waffling these days I hardly listen anymore.
Longer is better. Ahem. Anyway, for some of us stuck at home, the youtube broadcast and beers with chad is one of the few adult interactions we have in this sad state. You can always watch the cut up videos later in the week.
We’re going to try to stick to 2 hours after today. We hosts don’t have the mental endurance. .
I think around 90 minutes would be the sweet spot. Personally I like the banter between the hosts at the beginning instead of going straight to questions as it what gives the company a personality.
Hell no! I’m suprised TR don’t charge for the podcast considering the gold mine of information they pack into each session and the amount of time it takes to prepare for it (I imagine @chad and @ambermalika are spending days researching each topic they talk about and @Jonathan spending equally as much time curating each podcast)
Just wait for the podcast to be uploaded to Soundcloud and fast forward to the bits you want to hear about based on the summary given by @Tucker in the forum and let the rest of us enjoy the latest and greatest cycling and TR have to offer.
I am getting quite bored by the podcast these days, maybe I’ll start listentning on them one day, but I surely hope they are not going to be 2h
I’m enjoying the longer content and through doing so you have more of the personality’s coming through. I use the podcast for when I do Z2 work or my work commute, it fits my life routine perfect.
I realize this is tongue in cheek, but the “you’re not paying for it so you can’t have a dissenting opinion” attitude definitely exists in this thread and I don’t agree with it at all. The team specifically asks for feedback and reviews, so suggesting something that the OP sees as a potential improvement shouldn’t be knocked or disregarded.
Personally, I am split on this. When it comes to listening to the podcast at a later date I am good with extra long ones, more material is good. However, I will say that from a daily planning/scheduling effort for me (still actively working from job site, not work from home) the variability/significant time investment means that I can’t watch/participate with the live stream as I would like. If I knew it would be right at an hour, I could block out the time to make sure I have the ability to watch it in the background and possibly take part in the Live Q&A etc. I don’t unfortunately have the ability to carve out that much dedicated time in the middle of the day on a Thursday though. Something I would really enjoy would be having the podcast be twice a week for shorter durations (since this thread is all about what I want… )
Regardless of ways I think it could be improved or adjusted to fit certain lifestyles better, the podcast is an outstanding production and something the whole TR team should be proud of and praised for - it’s a fantastic resource for all of us!
A lot of people here say “just fast forward”. That’s not realistic on an audio podcast of that density. A subject may last for well over 10 minutes now. Assuming most people are doing something else while listening to their podcast, fast forward means interrupting that other activity to faff with the podcast. Hopefully the other activity is not driving.
I believe that podcast needs to re-densify.
Deep dives are fine. Chatting for 15-20 minutes about somebody telling her friend “don’t drink water” is not (they did that a few weeks ago). That’s where you can tighten the format a bit.
I still listen to it, and indeed Amber’s contribution is a positive. But it doesn’t focus my mind, I can’t listen to it during hard intervals anymore. And
I’m convinced that the vast majority of respondents saying “just fast forward” are watching it on YouTube and not podcasting. I’d also bet they are the vast minority of people who actually consume the product.
I like the length, love the in depth thoughts that are expressed and the humorous repartee between the hosts. Gives the listener/viewer a very human feeling. Appreciate the work that is put into the responses to the questions and even when the question has been asked before I like the follow up not just a reference to listen to this podcast when it was discussed. This is the best time of the week with all the Pandemic news so longer is better!
The hard thing is that the knowledge level for everyone isn’t the same. You’d be amazed the amount of pretty basic questions we get each week that we’ve covered before, but if people are asking them then I think they are worth asking.
There will be one on HR next week that I’m sure some people would be able to answer for us, but we get HR questions like this one all the time.
The best way to steer us where you want to go is to ask questions on subjects you’d like us to talk about.
Seeing the data myself, I think Jon does a good job of weaving in questions with disparate interests. We are trying to serve road, MTB, gravel, tri, women, masters, and beginners (to name a few). It’s so hard to tie a podcast together that pleases every person on every question.
We check data on blog posts, seo and quick clips on YouTube to help guide us along with the frequency of questions in our podcast submission and support.
I am on the same train here, lately you guys are deviating or go way too deep/long on a subject. I was thinking a good idea for a future podcast would be rapid fire questions and answers, even basic ones, almost getting into the conclusion for each answer if you talked about it before, and maybe linking it to the podcast number in the notes.
I feel the same way!
Piece of feedback: you need chapter markers in your podcast. Especially when you are centimetering closer to 3 hours.
