Switch to traditional base?

I’m debating whether it makes sense for me to make the switch to high volume traditional base for a while. Some context.

I’m currently in the middle of my build phase. After this week, I’ll be entering a rest week followed by another four weeks of build. I’m using plan builder and my A event is set in September.

The event I’m training for is a long gravel ride (250 miles in one day) so I’m thinking that traditional base would be particularly beneficial. In addition, I now find myself in a situation where I have a lot of free time.

Does it make sense to switch to traditional base at the end of this four week build, and then return to plan builder after? Or should I just keep going as I’ve made some decent ftp progress with the plan that I’m on?

250mi event 9 months away…yeah, I’d say doing 4-8wks of long endurance rides (seriously, make ‘em loooong) would be a good idea. Throw in a few hard efforts here & there.

That should give you plenty of time to give you a couple of FTP boosts.
