Swim negative effect on AIFTP prediction

Hi all,

Swim is so niche I thought it deserved its own thread.

This was my prediction this morning:

Then I swam (I had planned to swim last night):

I suspect it’s the over all load from training that has me on some kind of cusp, but until this morning I didn’t think swim had any effect on FTP.

My recent training is already oosted here: Fun with FTP prediction! - #30 by JoeX

Some deeper understanding of how swim is processed might be useful in prediction and fatigue? @Caro.Gomez-Villafane

Little bit of a bump and a little more info,

I’ve been looking at my EPOC load elsewhere, and my swims although they don’t feel that hard are generating a similar load to a hard bike day session.

So with TR perhaps processing HR data, it may be that this is affecting my ability to recover for the next hard bike.

JoeX, do you have swim HR data and load that into TR?

I’m guessing here, probably those workouts have an effect on future bike workouts given fatigue. System is picking up the added fatigue and thinking, “he needs something easier to not cook him”. This is making future workouts easier and lowering your progression trend and thereby your FTP.

That’s how i rationalize it but I could be wrong.

My experience is that swimming forced my AI FTP to plummet 100W since I’ve been swimming in November :man_shrugging:t2:

Best option: don’t record the swims. :poop: in my mind but there you go. It’s all a random guess anyway. When ChatGPT doesn’t know an answer, it’ll make one up. Figure this is the same.

Yes it’s all synched from Garmin, forerunner. I keep an eye on maxHR in case there’s some mad data in there.

FormSwim info is better, but I don’t have an HRM for the goggles, and they don’t sync data to Garmin so I dual record when I have the Form goggles.

Wow. Have you spoken with Support?

i have Form Goggles (no Garmin) but do not use the HR pod as it affects the goggle fit for me. This is why i keep asking for Fatigue Detection clarification on what data they actually use for the swim/run for adapting workouts and how that interfaces with the prescribed workouts in their multisport plans. Since the Forum has been a bust i did finally email support. Like i’ve said before, if anyone got that information or i missed on here somewhere please let me know.

Nah….frankly I figure I can make up my FTP just as well knowing my own history, progression and feelings. I ignored the recent suggested FTP.

For background, I detest the trainer and ride outside prolly 95% of the time. I use TR when it’s raining or icy as is currently.

Similar bur somehow different angle: The system could pick up some added fatigue but instead of making workouts easier, it would keep the workouts, but assume higher RPE estimate… like shifting 70% hard / 30% very hard to 60% hard / 40% very hard … which then could have the effect on the AI FTP prediction. But that’s all just pure speculation on my part.

You’re guessing is as good as TR AI…I would guess that he’s an Olympic swimmer and the swim was not fatiguing and actually active recovery. Bit that’s me….
