I mean, welcome to the community to five new members whose first post is in a thread with barely 20 replies in it.

“Something’s rotten in the State of Denmark”…and it’s not glucose.

Looking at the sock puppets user accounts and most of the new members have one reply, in this thread, and have a like from and for the previous thread revival noob.

A co-ink-a-dink as Bugs Bunny would say.

Do you think it’s a conspiracy to stop people consuming sugar?
More likely than people googling their symptoms, stumbling across this thread after never seeing tr forum before and creating an account so they can reply to this thread?

Maybe so. But the amount of N-1 replies saying “I concluded that sugar makes me cramp” after having cramps and then not having cramps is very high. No apparent attempts at eliminating other factors, and it matches the available science poorly too. Does this completely rule out that some people can get cramps from sugar? No. But it’s very plausible that there is some other condition causing the cramps.

in this day and age, with the internet being the internet as it is, It’s good to be sceptical of a thread like this.

Nah, its not about selling something, its the “sugar is evil” myth.

A conspiracy? Lol, no.

Just an observation is all. Uptoot the same post multiple times give a like to the prior uptoot and get your own uptoot from the next one and these are their only posts.

It’s just peculiar is all.

I’m sure it’s just people googling sugar cramps, creating an account, making one comment and then bouncing. No further inquiries, no questions, no learning. Just google, register, post, like the prior google, register, post and it happens five times over.

You are right, I googled my symptoms and even though this has not been scientifically proven, just anecdotal, I too experience leg cramps when eating sugar and refined carbs. I have a very controlled diet so there’s no doubt in my mind that’s the cause. Remedy for me is to spray magnesium oil on the affected area and it goes away in a few seconds.

Actually, it is scientifically proven some people do get cramps from exercise, sugar and carbs. Look up glycogen storage disease and muscle enzyme deficiency or McArdle’s Disease or glycogen storage disease type 9. Some people can’t break down the sugars into energy for their muscles. So, their liver stores is up and causes all kinds of problems that resemble diabetes, electrolyte imbalances etc. It’s usually genetic, but quite interesting to learn about and most regular doctors don’t know about it - specialists do. It isn’t a conspiracy that sugar causes inflammation etc. This is some people’s every day fate. It can develop as a child or adult. It can destroy your liver and muscles or be mild and not even really noticeable. Genetic testing or a muscle biopsy would give you your answer. Have a good day and I hope you all find the answers you are looking for. Also, I’m not a scammer or a bot. I only created this account to leave this one comment because this is the life I live. I used to be extremely active and in excellent shape. Unfortunately, this year I’ve really had to slow down for a little bit.

It happens to me. I ate a half dozen creme filled maple bars. About 30 minutes later I went to bed. 90 minutes later I woke up with severe leg cramps. I’m talking couldn’t stand up, afraid to move because they might get worse, in a panic leg cramps. I’m 60, male, run 30-40 miles a week. Weight train twice a week. Normally eat a really clean diet. Weigh and measure my food. It was my 60th birthday and just went eff it and plowed through a box of donuts. I keep a couple bottles of water on my nightstand. I downed both of those and the cramps went away in about 1.5 to 2 minutes. I got up and made an electrolyte supplement drink and drank that as well. I checked my blood pressure. 109/65 which is pretty normal for me. My resting heart rate was little high 62. Blood sugar was 118. I noticed I looked more muscular and my vascularity had increased. I know that one gram of glycogen binds with 3 grams of water. My guess is I upset the electrolyte balance in my body by introducing such a huge amount of refined sugar. So me being me I waited a couple of weeks and tried it again on purpose this time with the same results. Gonna have to grind out a few extra miles to maintain my boyish good looks after this hedonistic little experiment.

I just came here to say that sugar makes me get leg cramps too. Really scary bad ones that make me lose consciousness. In the hip flexors, groin and calf. Doctors look at me like I am crazy. I had stomach problems yesterday and could only eat white rice…well news flash, that caused the scariest leg cramp event yet! I think it’s all simple carbs that make the blood sugar soar and crash. I tried eating yellow mustard and pickle juice, I was passing out until I forced a low carb tortilla down my throat and I was cured…ar least till later. I am scared to go to sleep. There is definitely a connection between sugar and leg cramps in some people. I just think it might be rare enough that it isn’t on the medical radar. It’s very frustrating. All we can really do is try to keep our blood sugar stable. Ketosis makes it happen for me as well.

I can 100% confirm that sugar causes cramp. I went off sugar, almost completely, for 2 years, I could train, ride my bike for hours and was in best shape. After the 2 year break from sugar, I was at niece’s birthday party and was persuaded to eat a slice of cake, my first sugar intake for 2 years. Well, after about 1 1/2 hours, I became the entertainment, I got the worse cramps of my life in both upper thighs, I was screaming with pain and starting dancing around the house in agony, my brother wanted to call an ambulance. After about 2 hours the pain very slowly subsided and I was Ok, although the area of cramping was tender for days after.
I went off sugar again for a year, and again after the year, I was offered a stick of rock, and ate it. The result was exactly the same as the cake before, absolute agony in both thighs for a couple of hours. I never eat sugar now, and never will. I was tested for diabetes, and it came back negative, although close to borderline pre diabetes. Don’t eat sugar, gels, sugary snacks or cake.
