Strength training on Garmin

No from what I understand it’s a visual display bug.
The AI probably look at the entire file from Garmin and doesn’t care when or if you press lap.
Then the add the sets in TR on top of it to get a more accurate picture of what you actually did.

Yeah that is terrible. Do you want AI counting time you sit at traffic lights or forget to pause your garmin for the 30 minute coffee stop?

You aren’t lifting weights for 90 minutes, you are doing work for 30 minutes and scrolling Instagram for 60 minutes. They should not be looking at the session as a 90 minute session.

That would be true under an algorithmic approach, however that’s not really how ML works. It can be trained to understand what’s important and what’s not. Based on the fact that it roughly knows what you’re doing (strength training), has an HR file, and knows how many set you did. It can figure out if that activity affects the rest of your training on the bike.

The point here is not to figure out how effective your strength training was, but how does it affect the rest of your training on the bike.

Not everyone is recording sets, either via lap which they are ignoring, or via the strength “survey” and people are still getting yellow red days so it doesn’t’ necessarily know sets. They also said don’t record those sets unless you are going to failure. So if you are marking completed sets and not going to failure then it would be reading that wrong, which is why many people are not noting Sets in TR… they said not to. The HR data during strength training can be all over the place regardless of whether you are still working or not. My lowest recording HR this morning was during lunges, lunges! The machine would believe I was on the couch while working the hardest.

I don’t see how they can claim this is a display bug for those hitting laps when it also shows the elapsed vs working time in different places for cycling, running, swimming, hiking etc. It does that for every activity, this isn’t a strength lap button bug.

Sorry work time is very important, if they are ignoring it I’ll be removing all my strength sessions from TR, the function is useless.

I’ve been using it for a couple months and I find it very accurate. I I get yellow days from time to time when I do a gym and a bike session in the same day. If you keep getting red days, training consistency is probably a factor or you can tweak your training approach in the settings.
I have my training approach set between balanced and aggressive.

There are several threads about people getting yellow/red days from strength, not saying I’m running into it. The only thing I have even semi consistently been doing is strength and barely touched a bike this year due to some life stuff but I haven’t had one trigger since I was doing more cycling oddly enough so probably had to do with total volume.

This doesn’t change the fact that saying that working vs elapsed time being displayed is a bug when it is how it shows it for every activity.

It doesn’t change that 30 and 90 minutes of strength are absolutely not the same thing.

Those are just two new confusing things on something that already made no sense for cyclists, and that is expecting them all to go to failure on strength sets.

This is not being properly implemented.

Most of us here have come to the same conclusion and do not record any information from weight lifting sessions into TR. At most, I just let it sync the workout as a whole from my Apple Watch, for record purposes, and leave it at that. Just the logic that you need to run a set to complete failure to count is wild.

Yeah I record on my Garmin for the notes and the yellow/red man just to compare days but I gave up a while ago bothering with the input into TR beyond it auto syncing. Not only is it tedious but without going to failure it seems like it would be feeding it the wrong data both for me and the system as a whole as far as it learning. I’m concerned at this point that the machine is just getting bad data it will have a hard time using if a bunch of people are recording 90 minute to failure sessions when they are working for 30 minutes and have a half dozen reps in reserve.
