I’m at 13 months of no drinking–primarily so that I can train more effectively/consistently in the early mornings–and I’m not missing it all. The non-alcoholic craft beer market is growing right now too, which is awesome. Athletic Brewing and Wellbeing Brewing have some great options for anyone interested in trying them out.

9 months of no drinking, off season and vacation currently. I am having a glass of wine but no longer yearning for booze like I once did and certainly don’t have more than one or two a night. It’s weird given I used to WANT to drink. Now I just enjoy it, and use my savings to buy more expensive stuff to drink when I do have it.

I was drinking alcohol occasionally (twice a month or 3 times a month). Then I decided to not drink at all so I wasn’t drink alcohol about 1,5 year (it was about 2,5 years ago) then I started to drink occasionally again and It took not a long time. I started to vomit after every small dose of alcohol. It was horrible. Even one glass of wine was too much for me.
So half a year ago I decided again to stop drink at all. And I feel amazing! My body works well, I don’t have anymore those issues with my stomach. It is perfect. I am not gonna drink anymore :slightly_smiling_face:
If someone wants to become an active, healthy person it is better to give drink alcohol up, even if someone drinks that occasionally as I was drinking. :innocent: :biking_woman:t3:

Hey @FoodC, I totally agree with not drinking, but if one glass of wine is making you vomit you should get your doctor to check you out. That’s not normal.

Can you believe that my last drinking I finished in the hospital? I’ve drunk 2 glasses of wine and something happened to my body system. I was losing my breath, I couldn’t easily think, My whole body was shaking.
I went to the hospital immediately. They check my blood and there was everything good. The doctor said that I just drunk too much… which was just :wine_glass: :wine_glass:

But what I found is that there is some people in the world who can’t digest alcohol and even a small dose make them really drunk and even small dose gives the same reaction as alcohol intoxication. I think I am one of these people.

I’ll start by saying I have nothing against people having a drink. It’s your life and you can do what you want.
If you have a problem, I hope you can get yourself back on track. If you just enjoy a drink now and then, then enjoy it.

I’m 37. I haven’t drank since I was 20 (I’m Canadian, we get an earlier start). I couldn’t figure out what it was doing for me. I’d go out, drink, wake up the next day and feel terrible, when I’d rather be enjoying the day.

When I was in my 20s, everyone thought I was a moron for not drinking and looked at me funny. Now, closer to 40, people compliment me and say they should do the same thing.

I don’t even think about drinking anymore. I haven’t since I decided to stop. It’s cheaper, healthier, and honestly, I think a big reason I’m the same weight at nearly 40 as I was when I graduated from high school.

I think you’ve made a good decision.

This article gives an interesting background on genetic variations in alcohol tolerance and susceptibility to alcoholism. In short, if you process alcohol into acetaldehyde faster, you will have unpleasant effects from drinking (facial flusing, nausea, increased heart rate) at lower alcohol intake than someone who processes it slower. But environmental and social factors also play an important role.

There’s also sadly the possibility of something being slipped into your drink. But in any case, enjoy not drinking. I do, and I used to be a master drinker :sunglasses:

I used to be able to process alcohol like a champ from about 16 to 30. Then things started to change (the 3 day hangover), and as a result, I’ve cut my drinking back hugely.

I’m also in a different social situation now, where people’s idea of fun is to get up at 6am and go for a hike, ride, ski, etc. vs drink until midnight. It’s much healthier, I feel better, and it’s a better message for my kids.

Yes, I know it is possible, but I know what was happening with me even when I was drinking one glass in my house so that’s why I prefer to just not drink at all.

That is a really good message for everyone!
I have the same situation as you had. Everyone at the party is asking me if I am sick or something that I am not drinking…
It is just easier to have a better next day and future.
I am 27 now and I know this is an absolutely good decision :relaxed:

A lot of calories in alcohol… And I think alcohol is not healthy for all body and especially brain(((

There were times when I was a drunken lady. Slowly because of my beautiful daughter, everything changed. I had to decide what I want in my life, to survive or to live? What would happen to my daughter and my family if anything happens to me? I learned from various successful people, read books like My Shovel (Which is the main source of motivation for me), saw inspiring videos, implemented what I learned and see I’m very happy. I’m growing, working out daily, helping some poor people how much I can. My daughter and my family are my life and I can do anything for them. This alcohol is nothing in front of it. If I can then you can also dear.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. I have a similar story to the OP: didn’t like how much I was drinking, found it was affecting my fitness and health.

On Sept 2, 2019 (Labour Day) I made the decision to cut out/cut back my drinking drastically. I originally was going to go 30 days without booze, but when Oct 2 rolled around, I found there was no “reason” to have a drink, so I kept going and decided I would stay booze free until my wife and I went out for dinner to celebrate my birthday this past weekend. I went 47 days.

I did have a couple drinks that night at dinner, but I was able to cut it to much less than the old me would have. I have no reason to have another drink until we join friends for a birthday celebration (at a brewery no less!) in a couple weeks. And even then I’ll take it way easier than the old me would have.

My old self would have a drink (beer or wine usually, never was into hard stuff except the occasional scotch) for any reason at all: it’s after work, it’s a Friday, it’s a Wednesday, etc. Now I am reserving having a drink for actual social reasons/events, and much reducing the amount that I do/will drink.

I felt great during the 47 days without booze. I lost 8lbs (exercise and watching what I eat helped), various random aches and pains I used to get disappeared, I woke up with more energy every day and I feel like I am much more in control of my drinking. I feel at peace with my decision to re-calibrate my relationship with alcohol. It is no longer “I need/want to have a drink because”, it’s “maybe I’ll have a drink because we are celebrating something, but I can just as soon not”.

Really great choice! I have several neighbors did so. And no they feel really great.

I’ve started having problems recently and worried I can’t sleep without a drink. Currently I’m trying to be reflective and read as more info as possible. Can you recommend more resources like this https://addictionresource.com/drug-rehab/men-only/?
