4 more cycling routes left and all done. Prl full and half, quatch quest, and uber pretzel. Not too bad and home stretch.
For zwift running still need to do 3 of the 11. Routes only have done 2 of the 11 so a ways to go there. They will be much easier though than the cycling ones.
I’m currently only lacking the PRL Full. Hoping to get it done towards the end of October. Waiting for the October Zwift calendar to become available to see what days the London world will be available and if one of those days will blend well with my own personal schedule and training plan. I’m not the strongest of riders, so I anticipate it will take me 6 1/2 to 7 hours to complete it.
Yep just did that today, and knocked out PRL - Full. Whew, glad that’s over. 5 hours 40 minutes riding time, 6 hours 10 minutes including bathroom breaks, kit changes, bottle refills, and coasting down box hill 11 times.
Ive just got Paris’ Lutece Express and London’s PRL Full to go. I’m hoping that the October schedule has London on a day that suits me for a proper attempt at the PRL Full - I’d far rather do it on a proper scheduled day than via a meet-up as its just more pleasant when there are lots of other riders out on course.
I haven’t quite decided what bike will be the best choice for the course. Small differences in the bikes could actually make a big difference in time and effort required over such a long course. I’m thinking the tron bike might be a good balance, but there are much faster climbing bikes
Some of you will likely think is “cheating,” but there’s just no way I could actually complete some of these longer routes in a single session due to boredom.
A while ago I was reading an article that discussed how long one can leave their Zwift session unattended before it times out. The answer is as long as you want. There is no timeout.
Since I signed up for TR and have it controlling my sessions in ERG mode almost exclusively now, I decided to give resuming a session to complete a badge a try. This week I went for the “On Fire” badge (25 laps of volcano circuit in one session) and completed it over two TR workouts on consecutive days. Worked fine.
This is what I plan to do for the remaining badges which are just too long to bother with for me personally. Not entirely sure how it would work for something like the PRL Full which if London were no longer accessible, but I believe there is also a hack which allows you to enter any world you want on any day, so I’d assume it would be fine as long as you didn’t close the session. But I guess I’ll find out.
I went with the Tron bike. It’s about 2/3 flat, and the Tron seems to be a good balance unless you’re doing something like the Ven-top or Alpe. This scatterplot is pretty helpful for comparisons.
I’m good with it. In the end Zwift is both a training tool and a video game. If getting the badges that way motivates you to get on the bike then I say go for it.
I read a post someplace about an “older” Zwifter who really wanted to get the top of Ventoux, but lacked the power/ability to pull it off in one session. He did the same as you over a 3 day period and for him it was a big accomplishment. Of course some people take Zwift way to seriously and he got a handful of “you didn’t really earn it” comments on his post.
I’m more in the it’s a training tool camp so use it however you want.
Well, TR plans are what have me getting on the bike at the moment.
Before I started using TR I never really considered this. I would say that it’s more of a motivation to continue using and paying for Zwift. Only badges I have left are those handful of really long courses and the masochist badge.
I did do the Ven Top course within a single TR 2 hour workout.
Also, funny enough, on my second attempt at trying this tactic between yesterday and today the Zwift app crashed overnight so it didn’t work out. Still appears to have recorded my mileage though so I guess that’s a win?
I’m very similar. Been on both platforms since 2015 but working through TR plans are what motivate me. The Zwift badges, events, etc are totally secondary but add a little more fun to the indoor training experience.
I’m in the same boat with the badges. I’ve got them all but 6 and I put them in the “no way am I sitting on a trainer that long” category. Maybe on rainy days in the winter I’ll give them a go, but might have to give your technique a try otherwise.
I’m thinking I will wait for the outdoor Gran Fondos / Ride Across rides that I have on the calendar for next year – I’ll run Zwift on a phone concurrently to knock out the longest badges.
Lol, I was thinking about doing something similar for the running badges. I don’t have a treadmill. So I was going to try to do them outside :). I think so long as you have a connection when you start something, it’ll let you continue even if you loose connection during the activity, all the other people just disappear. Then it just syncs up later.
