Yep, I tend to get into great shape between December and April… then the weather gets nice, I start riding outside more and eating more post-ride junk food. My weight might go from 198 lbs to 203 during this time.
Then the summer hits, its friggin hot outside, Ice cream sounds amazing and at the same time my activity level falls off. My weight climbs again usually to around 205 or so.
Now the sugar monster has its dirty claws on me again and I start eating candy and cookies far too often. ( thanks to my wife and kids it is nearly impossible to keep it out of the house) Now my weight usually climbs to about 210 or so before I put my foot down and tell the sugar monster to kick rocks.
Slowly my weight falls down again in the realm of 205-208.
The fall comes and my activity level picks up again. I’m eating better and my weight falls again to 203 or so.
Then the holiday season comes and I end up back up to 208 by December when I start it all over again!
(as I type this I am at the “put my foot down” stage and my weight is mockingly steady at 212 this year.)
Do like me and just don’t stop eating Ice Cream…ever.
Lots of good ideas posted here. I have been a yo-yo myself and and finally getting the switch in my head turned back on.
I agree with gradual changes, one at a time.
1/2 pound a week is 26 in a year (is that enough?). And you will most likely maintain the weight loss. Don’t worry about having it all now, and fast.
A little weight lifting adds muscle and helps.
Keep a food log so you are aware of your intake. do I really want that ice cream if I have to record it and face my failure?
Finally, you won’t change until in your mind you throw the switch, there is a difference between “I want to” and Dam-it, I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. You know the right foods that your body wants, just follow what every other diet is saying, Fruits, vegetables, water. no sugar, limit portions, etc.
This. It has taken months but now I control the shopping and cook all of the meals! More work for me but better than divorce ![]()
