Sleep & Training

I’m going through a recovery week at the moment and have been thinking a lot about sleep and how it might be holding me back in improving performance. I’m generally someone that really struggles to sleep more than 6-6.5hrs (been like this since I was 16). Falling asleep is easy, but I wake up like clockwork somewhere around 5.5-6.5hrs no matter what I do (Usually 90-120mins Deep, 60-90mins REM). Typically I function decently well on this sleep but on top of training I end up feeling pretty gassed.

Anyways, I’ve been averaging like 7.5hrs the last few nights while on recovery week and it is blowing my mind. Has me wondering if I actually move away from something like 3 on, 1 off to something more like 2:1 or even 1:1 and hit the work weeks even harder. Any other poor sleepers figure out something that works or is this just life?

How old are you? I’m actually impressed you’re getting that much deep and REM on that many hours of total sleep.
