I don’t love the look of either one. Seeing dinosaurs, riding thru lava tunnels, and ghosting thru other riders is kinda weird. Otherwise they look the same to me because I’m really not paying attention to the graphics.
They talked about being on Unity, it being a widely available skill, and the ability to quickly hire low cost workers and make big changes quickly.

That’s sort of relative isn’t it, they would still need good math and programming skills, with the ability to write cross platform code, if I had those skills I wouldn’t be looking for low paying jobs, infact it’s long been documented that some of Zwift’s (and therefore RGT would have the same) problem is the ability to to attract people with Game Developer skills away from the Games industry, Unity just makes the pool a fair bit bigger
Yeah, the point being no one has Zwift skills, but tons of people have programmed with the Unity engine. They come on board ready to go, and with vast experience in solving the kinds of issues RGT has. When Zwift hires someone, they have to train and retain them.
Now, as for your mention of cross platform skills, there was no discussion of combining SUF with RGT.
I still can’t get my head around Zwift’s choice to use a custom game engine ![]()
Tbh, if we could get RGT mods like Skyrim…oh dang. That would be so damn cool
Cross platform = different machines, RGT works on PC, Apply, iOS and android
Most Unity devs will already have experience of that.
It’s fairly common with keen developers / startups, because they want to learn how to do stuff themselves, and it will be based on some sort of library, opengl e.t.c, a lot of games use custom games engines, Assassins Cread , Call of Durty, WatchDogs, Warcraft
Absolutely, but my point was that people with these skills won’t be
They will be skilled individuals, with the Skills to work in the games industry,
Which is just a different way of saying
@Nate_Pearson, I really hope that the competition for users associated with this merger drives TrainerRoad forward. I would like to the analysis of outside rides delivered … now, especially as we are in to the northern hemisphere outdoor riding season ![]()
I don’t agree, but that’s fine. Either way, I hope it happens! As mentioned above, competition is good!
Sorry, I’m just interested to see where you think we disagree, I said the pool of Unitiy developers is bigger than the Zwift developers (but developers capable of writing and using a custom games engine would still be interested in working in the games industry), and you said the there are more people who have used Unity than Zwifts custom engine
Just interest from a comprehension of what I didn’t understand what we didn’t agree on
Absolutely,
This may not matter at all - but all I have to say is IF trainerroad does not perform a merger such as the RGT/Wahoo I will be leaving the subscription for something different.
This absolutely guts me to say that as I have been a long time subscriber and do enjoy the product but the “value” is diminishing as I see other things like this happening.
Like I said, I as a single person who is grandfather pricing and has been in the cycling industry for 21 years may not matter in the eyes of TR but I cant imagine how many others feel like me.
I felt like you said it would be equally hard for them to hire developers, and I absolutely don’t think that’s true. It’s a MUCH bigger pool to fish in and will be way easier to bring people up to speed and get things done quickly.
Ok cool, just for the record, I think it will be easier than RGT than Zwift (as the pool of developers, is like you say, much bigger), I just think that both are looking at developers who’s skill set would allow them to work in the Games Industry and earn lots
But like you say, it’s fine for us to disagree, it doesn’t change what will happen in any way, and like say, competition can only be good
Thanks for replying
Never actually got it to work consistently on the old setup. Always thought it was more with my trainer (Elite Drivo Gen 1) than the program. Same reason I don’t or can’t use BLE.
Me too. Just picked up a XCadey PM just to keep TR from controlling the trainer and let me simulate outdoor workouts on my local roads indoors (yes, yes, yes… but it keeps the DW off my back during the week).
Could you (or someone) expand a bit on why these mergers tip the scales?
TR is the only indoor/training software I’ve used and I’m pretty happy with it. I gather that the other systems lack the training library that TR has, and I’m not sure that I’d trade it for virtual rides, no matter how good the graphics are. Maybe if you’re already paying for TR and Zwift, a single product that does both well-enough would be welcome. But for me, a guy who just wants to spin/train in my garage while I catch up on the shows my wife doesn’t want to watch, I don’t get it.
Visually, I don’t think RGT as superior or inferior to Zwift, just different. I do appreciate not being treated as a kid. I wasn’t into dinosaurs that much as a kid and don’t see it as a bonus after a few added decades of life, YMMV.
