For me, TR’s massive library was great at the beginning when I was first getting into structured training but less so now with more experience. What I mean by that is, when I was just starting out, I needed the variation and novelty. I liked each workout being different and even having the intervals slightly change was good to get me through. But now, I just want to get faster and don’t need a huge library. For a sweet spot block, all I want is increasing time in zone, so I create custom workouts of 3x15, 3x20, 2x30 and so on. Which any platform can do easily and really all I need is a basic workout creator to make in 15 minutes. So to me, there isn’t a huge benefit to TR’s massive workout library any more.
Exactly my thoughts above. I’ve made my own blocks for sweet spot and VO2 max and have had big gains as opposed to TR plans.
So in my eyes, this merger should get TR at least a little worried. Less so now that it’s warming up in my area so I’ll do just about all my workouts outside. But come winter, it would persuade me to choose this over TR. I can get the same workouts, but I can add in some extra entertainment? Sure, why not? AT was a cool development but I’m still not seeing a huge benefit in it. It just seems to increase the PL for the next workout, something I could do on my own. In the 6-8 months of using it I haven’t really experienced anything groundbreaking. Workouts get harder as I progress; well duh. Now I’m not saying TR has no benefit. Their calendar is awesome, outdoor workouts are sweet, and I do like their analytics like season match. And I will say their actual workout software is the best out there. To quote Apple, “It just works.” I really like the simplicity of it. But what you get for the price compared to everything in Wahoo X is hard to justify paying for, even more so if they decide to raise prices.
Wahoo will have to put a lot of effort into updating RGT before it appeals to the masses it seems. From what has been said it sounds like you have to run System, and RGT separate to do a workout?
I imagine most of the online cycling users only want one app running at a time.
Besides difference icons, intro splash, and their labels all over the web interface, nothing has changed much with RGT. It’s only day 4(?) based on my 4/26 email. Systm is a separate program and one shouldn’t have problem running concurrently (assuming if you can run Ant+).
I was just thinking about what I understand of most users (I don’t think this forum is representative of that). Most users seem to have much more limited setups and desire to set up multiple devices/apps etc.
I know it’s early. I’ve just been following this thread and it occurred to me that they are still separate and all this talk of getting RGT to pick up ANT+ while TR/System pick up BT seems well outside what “normal” or “majority” or whatever the correct term is, would be interested in.
Yes, but I believe the majority of users doing workouts on Zwift use the Zwift in house workouts/plans/TdZ or whatever.
That seems like the biggest potential advantage to either system. Which can bring them all in house. Whether it was Zwift doing all the TR things within their app system, or RGT having the Wahoo workout within the RGT app.
Zwift currently has workouts available so to me seems a lot more appealing as a one-stop-shop to the laymen type user.
Ah, cool. Sounds like more and more a Zwift competitor then.
It’ll be interesting to follow how much Wahoo put behind it. It’s going to take some major investment to overcome Zwift being the synonym for online training.
It seems to me as a limitation of the apple ecosystem and those that prescribed to it. I use my 7 year old Windows 10 PC with Ant+ FE-C and never seems to running out of options. It’s not a gaming PC and was bought for general purpose use. The stock 1050 Ti and $20 Ant+ USB dongle are still more than RGT and Zwift are throwing at it. At just under $600 new, it was much cheaper than my trainer or any one of my bikes. I’m pretty my current wardrobe costs more also. Considering how much this hobby cost, I’m always puzzled by the penny pinching. Maybe it’s a reminder of how one should hate indoor workouts.
I don’t think the majority of users have any interest in running two apps concurrently. That’s just what seems reflected from all the Zwift users that I know.
It doesn’t matter, you’re saying it’s doable, I’m saying it’s more effort than most people will make and an improvement would be if the workouts and plan and simulation were all within one app. It sounds like there are some workouts available already so they’re closer than I realised.
Xert already have some arrangement with Zwift. Xert is a weird platform and their workout app didnt work with my trainer and their support couldn’t work out why. I went back to TR cause everything just works.
I left Sufferfest when they dropped support for Ant+.
I’m not sure I am getting the issue here, you don’t have to run both to a work in either, both RGT and Systm have their own library (and RGT can import from TP like Zwift)
Systm has suffered from not being able to export outside workouts for a while, and is being worked on, so users are used to “doing it manally”
TR users tend to use Zwift during a workout because it adds entertainment, TR make a big thing about bring your own, Systm users already have the entertainment, it is part why they use the systm, so doing a workout in Sytm and using running RGT at the same times gives you very little, especially as RGT has very little in the way of gaminfication
Its a bit like Zwift buying TR and saying that you have to run TR in order to do a workout in Zwift, you really dont
