Question on actual threshold

This past Saturday I completed Geronimo. I averaged 300w np for the 1hr30min. When you look at the raw power for the 1hr15min of the actual intervals portion of the workout, I averaged 302w (308wnp).

That being said, AI FTP estimates my threshold to be 338w. I’m curious how it’s coming up with that number given that I just did an hour long effort that was pretty challenging. Yes, I could have done more, but 30w more? No way.

Should I accept the AI FTP of 338 or manual adjust down? Just curious on your thoughts. Thanks!

You know your FTP is at least ~310w.

Listening to your body is smart, FTP is generally a level you can hold for around 40-70 minutes so if you are fairly confident that 340w is too high you could go to 320w for now and see how workouts go from that point.

If you continue to listen to your body you can then adjust from that point based on how you feel riding at that new threshold.

I don’t think AIFTP is “hour power.”

Geonimo is 0.89 IF and you completed it with a bit left in the tank with the 338 AIFTP in place.

For TR workout purposes, I would leave it as it is.

For pacing a 1 hour time trial, I would dial it back a bit, maybe to 310 - 315

The tr FTP is a marker for intervals is my thinking. If you accept the FTP bump you are unlikely to do something like Geronimo anytime soon as your levels will go down where you spend time doing shorter intervals at your new higher FTP.

Geronimo is a tough workout, but it’s also not quite at 100% of your FTP… Also remember that AI FTP Detection looks at all of your training, not just one workout, so it sounds like you’ve been putting in some good work!

Ultimately, it’s up to you, but we’d recommend at least giving your AI FTP Detected value a try – you may be capable of more than you think! :muscle:
