Hi TrainerRoad Team,
I hope you’re doing well!
I just completed a structured plan (Nov–Oct 5th) averaging 8.5 hours and 400–450 TSS per week. After a recovery week, I’d like to follow a 3-month plan focused on improving FTP, without targeting events.
The plan suggested to me looks much lower in both volume and TSS compared to what I’ve been doing. Should I follow it as is, or would it make sense to increase the workload since I have more time available? My main goal is to raise FTP, not endurance.
Thanks a lot for your support and guidance!
Best regards,
Luca
Hey @Luca_Bussolati
I think you updated the plan you are describing here to a higher load?
By looking at your training history, it looks like your weekend Solo/Group Rides were the rides that drove the volume/TSS upward. Remember that not all TSS is created equal, so the plan for raising FTP while the TSS may be lower, the focus is on completing workouts that target the correct energy systems to raise FTP.
I would start with the recommended plan TrainerRoad is giving you for multiple reasons:
- You’re targeting FTP increases, so this means focusing on specific interval work, rather than time on the saddle.
- You just completed a full training plan, so going into a lower volume plan can be super beneficial for your body (and mind) to regenerate during the “off season” and come back stronger.
- You can always use the “Check Volume” after your first block of training to up your training load.
