Does anyone know if there is a way to insure a bike for EUR 12,000 with full risk cover (excl. wear and tear) incl. for competitive amateur racing overseas? I am struggling to find reasonably priced insurance. I do have an offer from Allianz for 1,200 or so euro for a year’s cover, but that pricing is 10% of the invested value. I only really need insurance for a trip to South Africa for 2 weeks or so in June. Thank you.

You could have a look at bikmo. They are an insurance company specifically for bikes with (optionally) very broad coverage at (in comparison to broader insurance companies) lower prices.
Gave their calculator a try and ended with €570/year for a 10k bike with worldwide coverage incl mass start events.
Unfortunately the calculator doesn’t allow for more expensive bikes, but you could just write them and see what they could offer - maybe even a shorter policy duration than the full year, though I doubt it
I did exactly that. I am waiting for a response, which I assume might take longer during holiday season.
That’s what I was quoted by a theft insurance on two separate occasions, about 10 % of my bike‘s value. Even the insurance agents, who seemingly had little experience with expensive bikes, had to swallow and admit it likely wasn’t worth it.
