I think riding 3 grand tours in such a short amount of time put Sepp Kuss in a bad way for 2024. Pog wants the WC title

For me, this has been the most enjoyable TdF I recall seeing since I first began watching race highlights in the early 1980s.

Due to having such excellent live full race coverage now and the time to burn to take advantage, compared to just brief highlights back in the day, plus a better appreciation of tactics and strategies, means it’s not really a like-for-like or fair comparison…

And I’m not claiming this has been the best ever “race” as such (89?), but for a range of reasons, inc. the constant aggressive racing on every stage, the privilege of watching Cav do the business (over 17 years of Tours :exploding_head:), and the finest all-round performance (from Pog) that I’ve ever seen, meant this Tour really hit the spot for me - just fabulous entertainment. Alternative opinions are available of course, even if misguided :joy:.

Roll on the O-lumpics, Vuelta (usually my fave GT) and Worlds. And :crossed_fingers: for a really strong turnout and re-match at next year’s Tour.

Have to agree. Pogi really animated the race, Bardet in yellow for a day, Bini making history, Cav at 35. The drone shots on the last TT were incredible. Definitely a world apart from the 10 minute fuzzy clips we got on Saturday afternoon in the 80s. But my favorite part was the groundswell of counter attacks against stupid fans following Chips Man - fans and motorcycles knocking idiots off their feet to protect the riders. This needs to become a competition, with Most Aggressive awards handed out after each stage. My vote for Super Combative goes to the guy in the orange shirt who executed a Bruce Lee worthy kick that sent a guy flying from the center line to the guard rail. Now one week of withdrawal symptoms until the Oly TT

Ha ha, yes there was another good one yesterday I noticed, alongside Pog I think, when some big fella grabbed another big fella who was running alongside and you could see things were maybe kicking off between them - as it began going out of shot I was willing the camera bike to go back to cover developments .

The Vuelta’s always been good value on this front, as the Spanish cops don’t mess around, always eager to trip up or shove annoying side runners over, consequences be damned. :facepunch: Plenty to look forward to!

Updated Tour Stage Wins by Age.

Added Super Mario and Mr. Armstrong. Google and the forum are arguing over the legend size, so if it says ‘3 more’ they are : Cippolini (12) light blue solid line, Armstrong (2) light pink line, Philipsen (6) bold red line.

With Pog’s performance, 35 doesn’t see quite to far fetched. I would not bet on it, but maybe at the end of next year …

Struggling more with the fact that this was it for proper cycling coverage for me, because Eurosport streaming shut down and no discovery+ available… Will miss womens racing a lot and the smaller races, at least the grand tours and the big classics are still covered by the national broadcaster but sadly not the whole rave and the commentary isn’t that great…

We had a severe weather event here in the boonies. Was without power or internet and missed the last several stages.

Upside was y’all didn’t have to suffer commentary and now I get to binge watch a bunch of stages.

See ya next year!!

Y’all be trippin’.

There of course were exciting stages and some good storylines this Tour, but the 3rd week was mostly a dud compared to what it could have been if things were closer. Last year was somewhat similarly disappointing in the sense that GC race was settled early in the 3rd week, but at least we got daily stage drama with Pogi’s redemptive stage win and Jordi Meeus’ big upset on the Champs. Hell we had 6 different winners that week.

It’s ok to love Pogi, but 6 stage wins from a single rider with the last 3 stages in a row being a glorified victory lap isn’t edge of your seat drama.

Might be a tough sell at first, but seems like a winning combination of safety and heat acclimation.

But everyone was still watching.
