Pro Cycling Thread 2024

I agree, especially since Jonas was hurting so bad yesterday - however, after the first unsuccessful attack, I think that is where you realize you are not dropping Jonas and switch it up to conservation mode. In a way, Remco had nothing to lose except more time, but his podium is intact. Yet, maybe he doesn’t take as big of a margin tomorrow. Still, seemed like a bonehead move to me after the 1 attempt at dropping Jonas.

Disagree, very hard to lose third at this point. Not attacking again, to the point of breaking yourself or breaking your opponent is conceding second entirely

Nothing to lose by pushing beyond his limit, and even if it was unlikely, a non zero chance of moving up a step

Tough stage today

Only realistic changes to the top 10 tomorrow:

  • 6 & 7 between Yates & Rodriguez - toss-up
  • 8 & 9 between Matteo & Derek Gee - my bet is on Matteo for 8
  • 10 & 11 between Ciccone & Buitrago - no clue

One small request for the universe:

Can we please protect Tadej, Jonas, and Remco from now until TdF 2025? Please? Like double Kevlar bubble wrap. (Roglic too, if enough bubble wrap exists for him…)

For the non twitter people can we get a screenshot of the Yates/Benji/Johan exchange mentioned on The Nero Show?

Tried searching and nada. My feed is filled with amazing nature/animals, science, and exercise physiology.

I’ve been watching Cycling Highlights. It’s hilarious and a great reminder that we shouldn’t take all this too seriously.

Highlight of today’s stage for me was JV, Pogacar and Carapaz riding in line with race numbers 1, 11, 111

That’s a good one :+1: Dan Lloyd is my other one

We noticed 33 and 44 riding side by side too…

Amazing numbers….as Friebe pointed out in another tweet, this is arguably the greatest rivalry in TdF history.

Watching the Peacock stream, the banner at the bottom is showing the stage winners. Apparently they’ve already pegged Tejada as the winner today with 50+ riders left to finish :joy:

Pog goes 20sec faster at the top of hill and isn’t really breathing hard.

Time to go do life

Greatest cyclist there ever was

Not even sweating wtf

Why did I think Reno would have this one? Ha ha. Of course after 21 days only Pog has a full tank. Valiant effort from Vinge, he’s got a lot of respect for this too.

Very entertaining tour.

Damn, just absolutely stamping this tour with that performance. Signed, sealed, delivered.

Chapeau to Evenepoel for that 3rd place.

JV still performing like that after injury. It’s got to be tough to be the defending champ… it’s hard to settle for second.

Great racing all around!

Now it’s time to decide if I cancel Peacock now or pay for the Olympics!

Does anyone else find raising the bike over the head to be kind of dumb?

I get that it’s a sponsor moment. Where did this originate? I seem to recall XC mountain bikers doing this. I want to say I recall this being a triathlon thing but since they finish with the run, I’m not sure.

Fun fact: Pog has won ~29% of all grand tour stages this year so far. And even if he doesn’t race the Vuelta, he will have won 19% of all grand tour stages in 2024
