Good lord he was bad….I feel for any announcers having to do a race solo, but that doesn’t excuse his horrific pronunciation, lack of awareness and rudimentary statements.
Ooof….that may have been the worst wheel change I have ever seen.
Alpecin rider punctures out of the chase group and watches as the peloton fills by as neutral service fumbles about.
That also pretty much kills the chances of that chase group staying away since Alpecin will now start to chase.
Side note - thank gawd McEwen is commentating today with Carlton Kirby. Listening to Kirby blather about by himself yesterday was just brutal.
KBK has fallen into a boring pattern: small break being chased by large peloton. Predicting a group sprint finish
Fully agree - although I haven’t yet found a commentator that can handle it solo. Even the ones I usually enjoy turn to hell pretty quickly when alone. I understand cycling is run on a shoestring budget, but please don’t make anyone do this alone
It was very odd to me watching a cobbled classic and hearing Carlton Kirby. For whatever reason I feel like his style goes very well with the more informal Spanish/Portuguese stage races, but doesn’t quite match the more serious tone of Omloop.
Strade Bianche is tomorrow…doubtful anyone is gonna stop Pog. The only question will be whne does he decide to go off on his own?
But I really hope he rocks the white bibs just so there is something to talk about…
The discussion about whether they have made the race too hard now has been interesting…I definitely agree that making a race “harder” only makes it less competitive. Whether that is good or bad is a matter of opinion.
Is Flo the only place to watch this in US?
It is on MAX in the US. FLO only has the rights for Canada.
I thought the course in 21 was a great balance
Maybe just looking back with nostalgia but the group that came to the finish was a perfect mix of rider types imo
That said…24 pog might’ve come in solo in that course as well
Pog rocking the white bibs on the gravel……yassssss!!!
Glad for the moment we have a battle at the front, and not just Pog off by himself. How long this will last? …???
Amazing bike handling by Pidcock
Howe he doesn’t have more road rash is beyond me……went down on his left side and the kit is mostly intact. More damage on the right side of his shorts than anywhere else.
I wonder if he is wearing one of the new “abrasive” resistant shorts?
If so, this would be a great advertisement for the material
I take it back. The shorts are pretty ripped up on the left side after all
I wonder if Pidcock tries to test Pog going forward on all of the downhills
Is it ripped up or just rolled up from the slide? I can’t tell…
ETA - yeah, ripped up….including his left front shoulder.
One close up shot showed the rolled up shorts ripped - there was a clear slit in the shorts fabric
I would absolutely test him, especially on the sketchier ones.
Don’t think it will matter much since Pog will likely be able to claw back any gap created, but it is the best chance Pidcock has at this point.
OK, I’m back to being amazed that his shorts aren’t more shredded….he has pulled them back down and they are relatively intact, given the speed at which he went down.
That road rash on his shoulder looks nasty, though….
Chasers need to keep the gas on….there is a chance they can catch the leaders, given Pog’s crash.
Women’s race was great, as expected. I’m loving the drama unfolding as the season gets going. So much potential for this season
Shame to see pog crash, glad it doesn’t seem to have had a huge impact on the race but always a mess to see
Guess we just get some more excitement about the outcome
