I quite like SIS but here in the UK I find High 5 offers more bang for buck, their Lemon with Caffeine powder is my favourite. I could do with drinking more though but thats a generic thing and nothing to do with a specific drink; a whole bottle will disappear on trainer, whilst often outdoors half the bottle is left when I get back 50-60miles later.

Flow Formulas works great for me. Good taste, goes into solution pretty easily, and easy on the stomach. I’ve tried the Skratch High Carb in the past because I’ve always liked their stuff, but it was always a pain for me to get into solution.

+1 for Flow Formulas. I really prefer the taste compared to other brands (Never Second, GU, Tailwind).

Put geluminati in the list. Best value for ready made mix

STYRKR here in the UK. 90g carbs + electrolytes.

Not as sweet as BetaFuel and mixes better.

I do Malto:Fructose @ 2:1 with an electrolyte tab. I adjust the dosage based on length and intensity.

Regular sugar with electrolyte tab (with or without caffein) based on length and intensity.

Homemade for every day (1:.8), SIS or Maureen with caffeine for race day.

For store bought mix; Maurten 320/100 when I can afford it.

Another vote for Flow Formula.

But man, that schitt is expensive so I have been using Tailwind a bit for training and saving Flow for big days / races. It is OK, but I definitely prefer Flow.

I may try the homemade route at some point.

Untapped.cc here - their gel mix. I used to use Skratch high carb mix, but after a while the flavor and the long prep time (need an hour for the powder to dissolve) really got to me.

Maple sugar FTW!

I heard UCan is popular in US, but here in EU I use mainly Isostar and new kid - NDuranz, damn cheap (€10 per 1.4kg) but good shit.

I love maple syrup too much. If I carry syrup, I’m constantly looking at my watch to see if enough time has passed for me to eat another.

I have recently been trying to make my own carb drink as the commercial ones are quite pricy but use the same ingredients that I can buy myself. I first tried sugar and salt. I can take that for a 1-2 hour workout but I can’ imagine drinking that over 5-10 hours. So I tried the 1:0.8 ration of Maltodextrin to fructose (with 1000 mg sodium via sodium citrate), and found it better that sugar, but still too sweet. So I have gone to 2:1. But here is my question: If the commercial companies, like Skratch and Precision (ones I have used and liked), are using these ratios, why does their mix taste less sweet than mine?

It may also be that a part of “gut training”, is getting used to the sweet taste and hydrating properly with it.

For that long most people have to actually eat something. Chew and get the salivary glands going as well as activate the neural pathways related to digestion.

For me high carb mixnis part of the fueling plan, not the whole thing.

That said the commercial brands do mix better out in the field. I want to try skratch high carb for that reason.

Are you comparing apples to apples? For example, if you make your own and it has 90g of combined sugars in one bottle, this is equal to 4.5 scoops of Skratch.
