TLDR; review your power records to help validate your confidence in AIFTP
I’m 7 weeks into a 37 week plan leading up to an ironman. TR has a lot of data on me since this is my 8th year on the platform, and I’ve been doing at least a full distance triathlon each year.
When I logged onto the new system I was also shocked at the elevated AIFTP. I was even more shocked by the AIFTP prediction. I think it over indexed my previous week because I crammed three consecutive workouts the previous week since I would be without a bike during the weekend.
Anyway, I struggled for the subsequent weeks (failed a sweet spot workout, which I can’t recall ever happening) and strongly considered manually lowering, but the dip in AIFTP prediction made me believe my numbers would normalize.
While my AIFTP still remains elevated near the early AIFTP reading, I’m starting to take faith in the initial seemingly inflated numbers. I checked my power records for indoor rides only and compared to the past two seasons, which have been my strongest numbers from the 45 min mark to 1:15 h:m mark.
The power records from the past couple weeks compared to 2024/2025 give me confidence, and rather than coming into each workout with doubt/concern, it’s shifted my focus to other things that impact the quality of my workouts: primarily nutrition and sleep.
Anyway, I hope someone finds this helpful to use the tools provided to us and help build trust in the system. Regardless of whether the technical definition of FTP fits here, I do believe that we’re all getting stronger with commitment and discipline.
Good luck to everyone this season, I hope to see you out there.
