There is so much documentation on the saddle it can be overwhelming.
I liked reading Steve Hogg’s take on it;
I also like all the information that road cycling academy did with it (Neil Stanbury)
Colby Pearce has some good info also;
The short version for me - I roll my pelvis very far forward, I always have and I guess and in turn this loads my IPR a lot and always has caused discomfort on my soft tissue. I hardly every use my ischial tuberosities when riding. It took me a long time to realize it, but that is just how I ride.
What the Avent Did - When @Pbase sent me the “Avent” it showed me for the first time ever that I needed a full cutout to relieve my IPR soft tissue and a shape to support how I move around the bike. It literally was like a switch for me from my Specialized Power Arc in terms of comfort.
The Issues with Avent - it was too wide and thick for me to use (also rather heavy) and was not the best choice for a rolled/low position. The Avent is great for a more upright rider.
What the Evo Did - The Evo was more narrow, had less padding and dropped a ton of weight. The evo allowed me to fully roll and naturally sit the way my body wants too.
My Setup - SMP recommends a saddle nose tilt from +10mm to -25mm from saddle back level. I currently run the saddle at -20mm. On the evo that means that the highest point of the nose sits roughly 1-1.5mm higher than the center (or around 80mm) point of the saddle.
Giro Sector Size 49 shoes & Shimano winter size 48 shoes available…just asking you cover shipping in US. I’m assuming it’ll be <$20/pair.
Both set of shoes were used for a few months but have been sitting for a few years since the sizing is too narrow for me. You’ll need insoles for the Shimano shoes (can only find 1 insole!).
We have a free Wahoo Kickr bike (gen 1, version 1) available for pick up in western MA. The left shifter is dead, but it works great for ERG mode. Ideally, pick up would be in early December (we are moving December 10) but can be flexible.
Well folks, here’s a never used, never built-up, Guerciotti steel frame and fork. It’s a Pearl White 49cm steel lugged frame and fork that has been collecting dust in a box since 2020.
I bought on a whim when I wanted to build up a vintage style bike with Campy, but I never got around to it and now we’re trying to downsize the house.
I don’t want to ship it, but I’m happy to let someone pick it up and hopefully use it. I’m in Alexandria VA, so anyone in the DC area can swing by and get it. If a 4 pack of Guinness Draught were to fall out of your car into my hands, I wouldn’t be opposed to that. But not necessary either.
I’ve lost the original spec sheet, so I’m not sure if it’s English or Italian threaded, but I’d guess it’s Italian.
Didn’t realize they made a steel frame. I’ve viewed the Guerciotti site a few times, since I have one of their aluminum frames from the late ‘80s. My bottom bracket has Italian threads and I had it unscrewing itself on one of my rides. With left-handed threads on the drive side, English is definitely better, but I haven’t had any problems with mine since using a proper amount of Loctite.
I’m sitting here in Arlington Va with a wife that rides a 49, but I’m not going to rob someone else of the joy that this frame should bring. My wife would never appreciate it and it truly needs to be appreciated! May you find a worthy recipient and may a dozen 4 packs of Guinness ruin your Spring training.
