No longer able to afford TR

And yet i remember reading a TR post on here over 3 years ago saying that it was on the roadmap for an update…

Don’t hold your breath :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Thanks, what’s the v2 update?

Still rather sad though about the workout creator

Workout Levels Version 2.0 is the name for TR reading any and all workouts and adjusting Progression Levels accordingly.

  • This largely includes unstructured rides and workouts not performed by actually using TR outside workouts. Things like races, group rides and other non-workout related ride data imported into your TR calendar. All of this is presently ignored and not applied to PL’s.
  • It will also include better analysis of TR workouts (inside & outside) when the rider exceeds or falls short of the power targets.

Once PL v2 is ready, you don’t actually need TR own workout creator – just use intervals.icu or TrainingPeaks’ creator (both are way better than TR creator, imho), do your workout and TR will take it into account.

You can even do it already with TrainingPeaks and sync it to TR. With free TP account, only limitation is that you can plan it only for current or next day and can’t move it around in TR own calendar. Also, when creating workouts, need to consider known TR bug that inflates workout’s main zone PL if ride contains sprints. I use it myself already quite often for longer Z2 rides for which TR has no equivalent in its workout library.

I don’t know if Zwift does this or not, but I know plenty of public multinational companies hedge currency risks by buying insurance products.

The details vary widely and can get really complex, but the basic idea is that the company buys a policy that effectively locks in exchange rates (often within a band) for the period of the policy. So the insurer would pay out if the exchange rate changed in a way that caused the company to make less money. The insurer would also reap the benefits of the exchange rate moved in the other direction.

The idea behind products like this is that Zwift (or whatever company is buying insurance) isn’t in the currency speculation business, and so they give up the currency upside (and pay some premiums) to avoid the currency downsides.

And this is why I just made the decision to quit TrainerRoad after 6+ years(even with a grandfathered $99 annual plan it’s not worth it to me) workout levels V2 is still not here. AT not accounting for outdoor instructured rides or rides on other platforms is useless to me.
I’ve also been waiting for group workouts to come to tablet/iPad but that’s been about 2 years now.
Oh and no outdoor workouts for my hammerhead either.
I’m afraid they’ve continually over promised and under delivered and it’s left a sour taste with me.

Sorry TR team, it’s been fun and I like you all but I’m outta here

You going to go to another platform, get a personal coach or do you own thing?

I hear what you’re saying, and maybe if you’d been paying the full price this whole time on the proviso you’ll be getting these updates then of course you’d feel a little cheated. But at a price of $99 which you were happy to pay for the service you were getting before all of the updates (AT and AIFTP etc) then its still an amazing price for the platform as it was, let alone as it is now.

If you don’t use it much then sure, you’re quitting because it no longer suits your needs, but to quit on the back of “over promised, under delivered” at $99 seems a bit drastic to me.

Personally, I’d carry on paying $99 a year if it never updated again

Yep, I hear you. $99 is good value but after 6 years it’s a little tedious and it’s just kinda irked me like I said. This isn’t about the money….so probably in the wrong thread, but at the full price I would absolutely never have paid that exchange rate drop or not.

Gonna do my own thing, dip in and out of a few different platforms and I intend to ride outdoors more. I’m confident I can self-coach as I’m not super serious and I don’t race or anything like that.

I will probably use Xert and intervals.icu for info and ftp numbers when I want to fine tune for events as I’ve found them to be spot on and best for analysis.

Just wanna clarify that at the $99 I was paying was tremendous value, but 6 years on I need a change and TR isn’t giving me that anymore. I’ve stayed the last few years due to upcoming changes that I loved the sound of but have never materialised! I do think other platforms offer as much and more than TR especially if you half half a clue about training so at full price it’s absolutely not worth the price imo.

Should’ve hedged against currency fluctuations then lol

Both could be true, depending on what TR folks mean by ‘roadmap’ and ‘pipeline’. To me, ‘on the roadmap’ == ‘we have an ambition to do it, and know roughly where it sits in our list of priorities’, whereas ‘in the pipeline’ == ‘we’ve actively starting preparing to develop this’. The problem is they’re vague terms that different people use in different ways, which doesn’t help with managing expectations. And of course, if it’s more like the former, then priorities do change, and some things will end up getting dropped.

"One solution is for these countries to adopt the US dollar "

Another solution would be for the US to drop the dollar and adopt the euro, after all the US us just one country.

Although the wait for workout levels V2 is getting pretty tedious - Nate was involved in some discussion on here and liked a post I made back in the spring (April maybe?) about how I presumed they would be keen to get it out for the northern hemisphere summer, yet here we are 6 or 7+ months later with no sign of it.

They keep mentioning it on the podcast so I keep checking in here for any updates, and still nothing. If you believe what they say on the podcast it sounds like it’s at a similar internal beta status to where v1.0 was when it first came out, but it’s sounded like that for months and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere :man_shrugging:

I also work in software and we simply wouldn’t have talked about such a high profile and in demand new feature in the terms that TR have been using unless it was literally ready to go, as it just annoys people. We have highly in demand new features and models and I am always careful to be very circumspect about where they are at (although to be fair, the specific areas in question relate to ongoing scientific research so it’s relatively easy for me to just point to the in-progress experimental programs). Unless I know for sure that they will be in the next release!

“We are working on it but I can’t give you a release date” = OK, sure, keep us up to date
“We are all using this amazing new feature internally and it’s absolutely game changing [basically what Jonathan said on the podcast] but we won’t give any timeline for release” = annoying

I Said a very similar thing in a thread about outdoors workouts (just wanted to add weight to your post) where the response was “we feel it’s the best way to share out roadmap”, the idea that one item with one response “WLV2 is our develpors highest priority” is questionable, as looking at this weeks release notes, “more tweeks to when an how you can use AI FTP” also seems to be “the developers hightest priority”

I do find myself skipping over TR staff posts these days, thankfully we have Chad McNeese

I think it’s reasonable if you are using a ranking system to have multiple items that are at the highest level within that ranking system. But that obviously can create confusion if people are interpreting that as being the single highest priority item on an absolute scale.

And of course just because something is higher priority than something else that doesn’t mean it will take less time to do (e.g., low priority items could be 5 minute fixes).

But the current status where it’s been teased for months and months as being imminent - I don’t think that’s the best way to share the roadmap…

Yeah I totally agree with everything you’ve said

Sort of the point that I was trying to make (badly) was that as they are only talking about one item, and they are only giving that a ranking, it’s not really a road map, as AI FTP, WLV2 and “under the hood improvements” are also being worked on, and there is no mention of them in “the road map”

But also like you say, “developers highest priority” is a indication of effort, no duration

I don’t know why I am replying to you, I agree with everything you have said !!!

Rumor has it they were going to roll out a blue checkmark (for only $8 a month) for those who want to verify they are official TrainerRoad users, but decided to scrap that for some reason, thus causing the delay.
(Kidding, this is a parody post).
