I noticed that over the next three weeks I only have two hard workouts prescribed. Since I’ve selected the Balanced approach with six workouts per week, I was wondering if you could explain the reasoning behind this structure.
For context, I’m really enjoying TrainerRoad and have been a happy user since January 2026. I’m just trying to better understand how the plan is set up.
Custom in that you created it or custom as in plan builder custom plan? Assuming plan builder If you go to edit plan what does your weekly schedule look like?
I don’t mind to have a “rest”-week with some endurance rides, however 3 consecutive weeks with mainly easy rides feels not very constructive. Looking back in my calendar, I had in week 3 also a rest week, but that was just one week.
Post a link to your calendar once you’ve made it public. Hard to fully get an understanding from those three weeks. I can’t tell where phases are starting.
I suspect the problem is that the amount of weeks between the start of your plan and your A-race wasn’t divisible by 4. That means that at some point you have to do something other than a standard 3+1 block. I had 1 week too much, and have just finished a 4+1 block. You seem to have 2 week extra and have been given an extra 1+1 block.
Unfortunately TR doesn’t do half weeks, which probably would be the best here, since you shouldn’t need 1 full week of recovery after only 1 week of base. My suggestion would be to expand your one week of base in both ends. Maybe do your normal hard ride on the coming Saturday, and if you feel sufficiently recovered start your next block on the 7.
That sounds quite reasonable. I was actually hoping that AI would automatically optimize the plan around my A event. But you might be right, that makes sense from a block-structure perspective.
I think I’ll wait to see if someone from TrainerRoad chimes in, and otherwise I may open a support ticket
Because of how the date range is built for your training plan, you are having 2 Recovery Weeks rather close to each other.
Out training weeks follow a 3:1 ratio, but because of the timeline, it’s having to add a quick Base Phase of 1 week training - 1 week recovery as you see on the screenshot. Then you go into a Build Phase on the 10th where you will see 3:1 ratios.
If you’d like to manually change a Recovery Week, I would do it on the current one (Feb 16th-22nd) and mimic the week prior, and then follow the plan as normal so you fall back into a nice balance or training vs. recovery weeks.
