The thing is, good numbers on training, which you already have, are one part of the equation. Knowing how to use them efficiently and effectively is another animal.
Not just bike handling skills, but when and how to hide, how to be smooth, controlled, etc. Plus, spicy group rides are so cool!
If you do a level 9+ sweet spot (or threshold or V02) workout, it will prompt you to detect ftp, but what really happens is you get an arbitrary 2% bump and your next AI detection gets pushed another 4 weeks down the road.
Wow. Why the personal attacks? Nobody is saying your FTP is fake (though yours does seem to be set low if you’re doing 64min @ 104%). I was trying to warn you about a TR “feature” where it sometimes prompts you for a detection but doesn’t actually run it through the AI model. This happened to me, which was a bummer because I really like AI FTP detection and I had to wait another four weeks to get one.
Mine is set low…..this is 12 weeks into the training plan. I’m continuing to improve past the previous ai detection a few weeks before. This has nothing to do with having a wrong ftp. Im still finding out where I’m good at on the bike because I’ve only really done about 40 workouts in this plan and they’re all new to me but the steady state work is where I’ve been doing the best. I’m seeking harder and harder workouts and that’s why my PLs are so high.
The default response for some is to just think that the ftp I have is wrong or the ai didn’t detect it right but they fail to consider that maybe I’ve just improved.
Maybe TR has recently fixed this problem, but having my next detection bumped out four weeks is exactly what happened to me. Here’s my exchange with support from December:

Hi there, Patrick,
Kent here, thanks for reaching out to TrainerRoad Support and for being such a long-time fan of TrainerRoad and AI FTP Detection!
It looks like you recently viewed your FTP value 11 days ago, which automatically resets the 28-day window for AI FTP Detection. This is why your next detection date was pushed out. AI FTP Detection is designed to allow athletes to view their FTP on a rolling 28-day schedule to ensure adequate data for accurate calculations.
However, I completely understand the situation and have gone ahead and reset your AI FTP Detection date.
Let me know if you have any other questions, and I’m here to help as needed. Keep up the great work!

Hello. I am a long time TR subscriber and big fan of the AI FTP detection feature. I recently completed a level 9.0+ sweet spot workout and was prompted to detect my FTP. I said ok, but later learned that the system wasn’t really detecting my FTP, only arbitrarily suggesting a 2% increase. It looks like since I asked it to detect my FTP (which I don’t think it did), it shifted my next detection date four weeks further out. Can you please reset my FTP detection date so that I can check it through the model tomorrow (12/9/24), which is 4 weeks from my last real FTP detection. Thanks!
I believe what you’re referencing from back in December of 2024 was an FTP Detection, not a 2% FTP Adjustment.
Those 2% FTP Adjustments typically only happen when you’re in a Specialty phase to help ensure that your FTP doesn’t jump up too high, resulting in a significant reduction in PLs, which isn’t what you want when sharpening up for your A race.
Since you were in a Base phase at that time, you received an actual AI FTP Detection, not an adjustment, which is why your AI FTP timer was reset.
Early FTP Detections can be prompted after passing a level 9+ workout when you’re outside of a Specialty phase (again, the 2% FTP Adjustments only happen in Specialty phases).
Does that make sense? All of this is outlined in the Help Center article below if that helps.
