Right, today I will perform my first ramp test. I’m scheduled for 3x2min Z5 and 102TSS over 40 mins today, but I haven’t tested for a while, have had several days rates after some `Z2 work and feel a ramp test is almost a like for like replacement.
I shall be using ERG mode on an Elite Direto, with an October '18 FTP of 281 plus winter training and spring summer training in my legs. I’m hoping for an improvement, but I’ve only ever used 20 min tests before.
I’ll just add that trainers also have a resistance ceiling and resistance floor so sometimes you need to change gears in order to hit the really high wattages or really low recovery periods depending on your initial gearing.
I believe this is more prominent on the lower-end/cheaper trainers as they don’t have the variance that the more expensive ones do.
