LOVE THESE
Oh, those remimded me of these waffles from Eggo…same idea. Thaw and eat. I can stash one in my jersey pocket frozen and it has thawed by the time I want / need to eat it.
Mochi are pretty good- the plain ones are pretty much just lightly sweetened rice flour so the macros are pretty decent, and they hold up well enough In a jersey pocket (aside from the squish factor which doesn’t bother me)
On the slightly more divisive side…salted liquorice. ![]()
Sociopath.
I just looked quickly through my Feedzone Portables book and couldn’t find any. A few example recipes:
Red Lentil Rice Cakes
Two Bite Pies
Sweet Potato Cakes
Liege Waffles
Sticky (rice) Bites
Awesome @Pbase, thanks for the info! Beats having to buy the book to find out the hard way!
Tortilla wraps ![]()
Plain tortilla or contains some layer / filling?
I don’t think I’ve seen Uncrustables. Put em in your pocket straight out of the freezer. They have wheat for the health nutz
.
Which type of cream cheese should I use? There many different kinds of cream cheeses, I tried mascarpone because it had no additives and although what I made tasted delicious it wasn’t very suitable as bike food (too sticky and wet, not solid enough)
Cream cheese is a specific thing in the US. It’s the cheese you get on a bagel, if that helps.
Used for cheesecake, too.
Got these Strawberry Belgian Waffles from Costco today to give a try for variety sake.
I use plain (regular) Philadelphia cream cheese.
I can get that in the Netherlands
@Pbase there’s a video in the article, the 2 cooks appear to be Italian but they forgot to mention to use American cream cheese not Italian and in the video they use cream of coconut not cream cheese
Interesting. I just watched, and yes, they said you can use cream of coconut instead of cream cheese. What a huge difference in taste! It actually sounds very good that way to me.
I’ve used just those plain wheat wraps for ease of use. Cheap, easy to store and no mess - works for me. Some fillings could be nice though ![]()
Let me know how they work. Seems like too much fat, though that does make it taste better.
I tried the Stroopwafles from Costco on a ride yesterday. Not as good a form factor as the fig bars, that’s for sure. Took five or six bites to eat a single 140 calorie serving (21 grams of carbs) and the circular shape doesn’t stack as neatly in the top tube bag. From a variety perspective, they were a nice change of pace though.
My trick for Stroopwaffles is to fold them in half for a 2x thick bite each time.
100%….I’ve a,ways done that with “on bike” waffles (Honey Stingers, Untapped, etc).
Also helps prevent pieces breaking off as you bit into a round shape and have odd shapes remaining.
