People do stuff to the route? Like what?
I’m borrowing an extra Garmin for peace of mind. I was worried that that’s my single point of failure.
Yeah, you’re probably right. An 810 and a cable is not that heavy…
I believe youre free to set your own route in Edinburgh? There are shorter routes available I think. I’ll just stick to their suggested route as I presume it will be quieter.
I guess some people might mark extra cafes and stuff
On the YACF thread someone has simplified the routes into one North and one South with tiny file sizes. The looks great. Was done by Lightning Phil not sure if it one and the same as the Phil in this thread.
I’m probably going take the planned route through Edinburgh also… what’s a couple of km over 1520 ![]()
Be aware that the Fringe is on in Edinburgh so quiet streets you think might be shortcuts could turn out to be full of people standing around looking at a mime artist or something ![]()
I’d stick to the suggested route if you have one – Edinburgh is not great for cycling with the tram lines, city traffic and split level roads. One route planner, a long while ago now, suggested I make a left turn which turned out to be a 10 foot drop as I was on a bridge.
It is ![]()
Previous editions didn’t go into central Edinburgh. They turned at a school (control) in Gracemount in the south of the city. This is the first time it’ll cross Edinburgh. I’m inclined to stick with route provided which will have been test ridden and thought through. I have no local knowledge to beat what’s provided. I think the actual bit in the centre is less than 2km and then you are away. I do know the disused railways are tarmac and good to cycle on.
Over 1540km ![]()
Good info, thanks - I’ll stick with the route they’ve given us (most of the route is mandatory but apparently in Edinburgh it’s not mandated as there are shorter ones available).
I have ridden through the centre of Edinburgh before (did Scottish C2C last year) and it looks like much the same route - disused railways etc… Agree with Phil that I would just trust their route testing and leave it at that.
Once the changes have been finished (again) will your fantastic N&S route be updated in the drop box ?![]()
Yeah but I’m not looking again till at least Monday . Got some riding to be done this weekend.
All good. what you done is easily enough modified when I need too… thanks again
RidewithGPS allows you to add Custom Cues and Points of Interest (POIs)
They are unsupported racing and likely bivvying each night. You can sleep at most LEL controls 3-4 hours apart and thus just an emergency silver bag will do. No need for all the extra bags of TCR, That’s like carrying the proverbial kitchen sink for something like LEL.
Forecast looks interesting, looks like a moderate Northerly wind for the whole event (at this stage). Which would be useful as I would definitely prefer a tailwind on the return leg!
Slightly concerned that it will revert to prevailing (W or SW) for the return though…
Oh well, no point worrying about it now!
Just grateful at how relatively benign it is currently for the whole period compared to past years… taking all of my excuses away though ![]()
Anything but a heatwave will do me dandy
Yep - I am even OK with rain (well I would not say that I like it, but I seem to go well in the rain).
I wouldn’t be upset if it stayed a northerly wind the whole event either.
Have rebooked my train for the 14th (massive rigamorale with Avanti and train bookings…), and booked a really nice restaurant with my wife on the 13th, hopefully I’ll be able to walk around by then ![]()
Just done some last minute Wiggle ordering… new rain jacket and leg warmers (my Gore ones are terrible).
Struggling to focus on work or anything else this week!
