LEL (london edinburgh london) 2022

To be fair it’s happened to me a few times that I was ready to leave for an Audax and just remembered to load to route minutes before

Hmm, interesting. I’d ride with an IF of <0.6 if I had an FTP of 340 haha. Sadly I don’t so have to do my best to keep the pace up. I find 0.7 pretty manageable though.

They are also racing for 10+ days not sun 5 so a different ballpark again…

This is a mistake I make often on Audaxes. I find myself forgetting I’m not as fit as when I first started doing them. The last 200 I did, I was in the main group chatting to a couple of Audax newbies who were very excited (and very fast). I eventually let the group go after the first control. About 30 minutes afterI finished, solo, the 2 guys came in looking completely done in - I must have passed them at a control as I didn’t see them on route (I find being solo is also an time saver at controls)

Good luck to everyone doing LEL - please post back here once finished to let us know how you all get on

I’m going to be keeping it below 0.6… I think my FTP is in the mid-high 280s, although am not testing and leaving it at the 274 from my last AIFTP which was ages ago now.

In fact for the first stages I will probably aim for 0.5-0.55, and then see how I am going later.

And LEL is most certainly not a race, thus different again.

When fresh but what is it after 1200km and little sleep?

It’s a lesson you learn early if you observe the old hands who are now slow. You’ll pass them on every leg, sometimes they finish before you, despite riding much slower.

You overtake them on the road, they overtake you at controls.

It most certainly won’t be for me :grinning:. Only thing I am racing is the clock

Changes to route as Yadd Moss closed if you’re not aware. Time to re download GPX and route sheet etc.

Well exactly, that’s why I plan on keeping it nice and easy at the start (and probably at the end too :face_with_spiral_eyes:)

I hadn’t downloaded at all as there seemed to be some changes. Just done it tonight now and will take a proper look at the route now. Hopefully this is it! Thanks

Yeah I saw that, and some griping about how hard the replacement route is (much steeper climb apparently). Hey ho.

They also announced another train strike on the 13th which is when my train back is booked… bloody annoying. Have had to fork out Saturday London prices for another night in a hotel, and it will probably be a right pain trying to get the train rebooked.

I went for the Debden Campground route. I’ll leave the tent up and my Car there so I can just fall into bed whatever time of the day or night I get back :grinning:

Someone stop me from panic-buying just one more thing that ‘will really make a difference’. I’ve been looking at people’s set-ups for TCR and getting all sorts of ideas. My bags work, my kit works, do I really need that nifty downtube bag for 60£?

Think it depends how much you do with the tracks. I do very little with them as I just like them nice and clean with no embedded turn instructions. I’ll create a single northbound track and a single southbound track. Already have waypoints for controls. I don’t like my gps beeping at me furiously every few seconds to tell me there’s a bollard I can see with my own eyes.

Where as some of the commenting implies it’ll take a week for the rider to process the new tracks.God only knows what they are doing with them.

I am just going to download them and stick them on my Garmin… No other messing around.

Still debating whether to bring my old 810 as backup for my new 1040 Solar, I did for my 600 as the 1040 was brand new, but the 1040 has worked flawlessly so not sure whether I want to carry the device plus charger when the likelihood is it will just live in my bag the whole way.

I was planning on uploading to my device as I get them. I don’t play with them at all…

@GoLongThenGoHome one question though being you have done it before…

Use an Edinburgh diversion route or stick with the supplied route. Seem to be 2-3 different options based on the FB group… typically shorter with less climbing :grinning:. Which way are you going through or around

Lurker here, but what tool do you use to do that? I’ve only ever just taken the gpx provided by race organizers but also wanted to add in aid stations.
Thanks!

Believe the TCX has waypoints/information points on it usually
