Komoot moves to premium subscription model and announces acquisition by Bending Spoons, and where DC Rainmaker thinks this is going Komoot Acquired: History Says This Won't End Well
Unrelated: Happy Birthday mate!
or if it isn't really your birthday
(happy TR forum account birthdate setting anniversary )
Haven’t read Ray’s article, but oof. Those two words are enough for me to know Komoot is cooked.
Thank you! It is…on your side of the pond. Tomorrow in the US.
Oh, I keep forgetting we’re in the future.
Yeah, any time a company gets bought by PE and the word “scaling” is used, they are fooked.
Never ceases to amaze me how “smart” business people continue to make these same mistakes over and over. They may understand finance, but they sure don’t understand the companies they buy…or their customers.
You’re trying to tell me its not profitable to buy a small company, fire all the staff, cancel all the recurring spend, and just see how much more you can squeeze out of the customer base before things go tits up?
I’ve seen better business models than that, yeah…
If you want to delete your Komoot account before they sell your personal data or add new features that you get automatically opted into, you do so by following the instructions at the above link.
I suggest acting ASAP if you are going to delete.
Ah man that sucks. Bought some map pack way back and used it for planning my rides since then. Felt like it was the best option here especially when planning gravel stuff… Will have to look into ride with gps. A bit more…
@Morzak - the DCR article says legacy users who paid for things in the past will get in via legacy. You might want to look into that.
Youre details are already sold on
If you’re in the EU you should be able to exercise your 'right to be forgotten’ and software provider (in most cases) must notify you of erasure of data from their systems. Them failing to do so opens them to legal liability though I doubt anybody here is truly going to try and sue Komoot
Yeah it’s more the company that took them over is something I don’t wanna support and I have no confidence that the product stays good or improves.
Same error for me.
I was able to delete my account last night. Or at least it didn’t give an error. Maybe they lied and kept my data.
@christophebp @mwglow15 Before I found that link I had emailed feedback@komoot.de last night asking for my data to be deleted. They got back to me today and said they couldn’t find my account (which must mean that the website method did actually work for me).
Anyways, they are fast and seem to have the ability to delete your account themselves. So get in touch with them.
