Jonathan. PLEASE quit interrupting Nate and Chad! It is SO annoying!

The interruptions are fine during banter about tactics or what not but I can’t stand it during deep dives while coach chad is trying to explain something. I’ve turned off the podcast/youtube video on a few occasions because I’ve been frustrated with the amount of interruptions while chad has been trying to explain some research he did for a question. What I wouldn’t mind seeing happen is that whenever coach chad has a deep dive have it cut from the livestream and insert a prerecorded clip of just him explaining what research he has read, his interpretation and how it applies to the topic. Basically what he tries to do during the podcast without people trying to explain what he’s saying while he’s saying it. Then cut back to the livestream proper give a quick summary to transition in which the simplifications and discussion can happen without it interfering with chad getting his point across. These clips can then be posted on their own after the podcast as coach chad’s deep dives. That way I and probably others get their uninterrupted stream of coach chad’s thought and then everyone gets their friendly banter.

This or cut jonathan’s mic while coach chad is doing a deep dive. That way there will be less interruptions and we also won’t hear the constant stream of “uh huh” “yea” “oh yea” “mm hmm” etc. during the deep dives. For some reason I just can’t block that out from hearing that and it’s super distracting.

I agree! Edited!

I’ve never thought Jonathan interrupted the flow of conversation or information. I think a lot of it is banter but more importantly, the message of the podcast is never lost. Jonathan’s reply is pure class.

FWIW @Jonathan, I’m loving the podcast. Please don’t change a thing.

Coach Jonathan (as well as Nate, Pete, and coach Chad) makes appropriate interjections. That’s part of what makes this podcast so informative and entertaining. If you want a straight lecture on these topics, go take a sports science class at your local CC, or read a book.

You’re doing just fine. There is nothing wrong with the way you are hosting, in my opinion.

I wish I could dislike this post.

If you’re going to post something like this in a poorly written and distasteful manner and using your first post to do it, at least use your real name and be accountable for it!

I’m not so much into the CT podcast, but can’t put my finger on why. The Cycling Podcast (noting that it’s not a tips type pod) is the one that I think most closely mimics the TR pod in terms of interaction between the hosts.

Even though I’m a weekly listener, a lot of the time the CT podcast can be a bit “Groupthink” where quite popular opinions are regurgitated week after week, and then quite often I’m screaming at my phone because they’re all missing a really basic part of the counter-argument.

Case in point was this weeks podcast on gremlins in electronic gearing. It’s not like mechanical isn’t without its issues as well!

Nah mate you are perfect. Don’t change. It’s that chemistry that makes y’all the best listen out there.

I, for one, am pretty happy with the way @Jonathan hosts the podcast. He’s not a professional broadcaster and I wouldn’t want him to be.

All of the guys are keen to share their knowledge/opinions and sometimes that will result in people interrupting each other. It comes off like a conversation between friends and I really enjoy that vibe, if the podcast were more of managed ‘product’ I’d be put off listening.

I’ve personally never thought that you did interrupt! You do a superb job of facilitating the podcast. Some control is needed to provide the right balance.

For some reason that drives me insane. Once you hear it you can’t stop hearing it.

To add to the feedback, I really enjoy the conversational style and have zero problem with Jonathan’s hosting. Keep it up!

Yes! I’m the same. That is my only gripe, albeit a very small and insignificant one in my overall enjoyment of the podcast!

I have no opinion on Interruptgate but this is a great idea that would lend to video clips with a “lesson” quality rather than a roundtable discussion that can be hard to follow if you just want to know the research summary. These could be referenced “for more info” in workouts, guides, etc.

I’ve got to respectfully disagree. I’ve often thought about how hard it would be for me to be that positive, engaged, and effective at my job as consistently as @Jonathan is on a week in and week out basis!

That’s a bit harsh!
Chairing a live conversation isn’t the easiest thing to do, and I for one think your doing a grand job. Keep it up!

+1 for disagreeing with the OP. This podcast is my benchmark for all others - I feel like I 'm in the room. To listen to one person talk endlessly as a lecture rather than the natural ebb and flow that exists in the TR podcast would be a turn off for me. Respect the feedback but I think you can park it as a non-issue.

I think the flow is excellent. It is my favorite podcast. Lance interrupting JB is maddening. Velonews Fast talk is OK, but Trainerroad rocks. I wouldn’t worry about the OP, sounds like he is in the minority. You can never make everyone happy. Keep up the good work all. We all feel like a part of your family. Honestly I subscribe to Trainerroad to support the podcast more than anything.
