I have never noticed it, I think the podcast dynamic works really well, I would hate for it to change or have any of the reg three second guessing their input based on this critique, Johnathon does a great job, Chad and Nate too!
Absolutely love the podcast, never been such an avid podcast listener until I found TR. The banter is great, keep it up.
Way to have a thick skin and take criticism in the most constructive context possible @Jonathan - that’s a lesson in itself. Chapeau
Of course, like others, I wholeheartedly disagree with the OP. As a longtime multimedia journalist, podcast producer and content-focused product manager I understand and appreciate the tightrope you walk so well hosting - juggling entertainment, information and production value while trying to maintain a casual, lighthearted and be-part-of-our-family atmosphere. In my book you’re a Cat 1 UCI Pro in this discipline. Keep it up.
@Jonathan I wouldn’t change a thing man. The conversational flow is great and I think your input shows your high level of engagement.
If you want to be annoyed by interruption, listen to JB Hager trying to get a word in edgewise with Lance sitting next to him.
For what its worth… I recently entered into a discussion with a national body here in Ireland with a view to developing a Podcast: The TrainerRoad podcast was presented as excellent example in how to balance a conversational flow with an ability to enter into considerable depth without losing audience engagement. It’s much harder to do than it looks/sounds and there is something special about how these three hosts ensure that the excitement of our sports are communicated through the spirit of the conversation. As someone who has listened to every podcast over the past few years I must say I’m in awe at their ability to remain as fresh and enthusiastic in their weekly communications to our very wide and international community. Bravo.
Don’t change
Jonathan, you do an excellent job as noted by Nate when you were away
Keep up the great work
What an obnoxious post.
Keep up the good work Jonathan. Your commentary is appreciated by the majority of your listeners and the podcast is an awesome resource and greatly appreciated.
Screw that. Change his hair. It’s too perfect.
I’m quickly approaching a disturbing point where I’ll have more hair growing on my back than my head.
Is it weird if I take a photo to my hairdresser and say hit me up fam??
Keep up the good work guys. Obviously you have to say all the right things to a customer with an opinion but I personally hope you don’t pander to every obnoxious a$$h0le that’s out there.
Five stars from me!
All good Jonathan, you do a top job!
Interesting post, my view

The OP does have a point

I don’t feel he presented it in a “rude” manner
I still like the podcast though.
Everybody stop replying directly to @ **Jonathan. You know he’s just going to interrupt everyone again with a response! So rude.
Please, use more CAPITALS and italics to emphasise how detrimental you find the hosting to be to your enjoyment of the podcast. I’m not sure you quite made your point firmly enough…
Whether anyone agrees with the OP or not there is a way to put across an opinion and a way not to. This falls firmly in the latter camp. A little more grace would go a long way. Something that Jonathan models particularly well in how he responds to and treats others.
I personally love the balance of the podcast, it’s a great mix of information, banter, laughs and the odd lecture from Chad. I don’t listen to the podcast for one long stream of information and I value the mix of personalities and styles that each person brings.
Are people entitled to share their opinion and give feedback? Yes, of course. Are people entitled to phrase that feedback in a manner that comes across as moaning or throwing toys out of the pram? Not really, no.
Think before you type and read it back before posting. And if something has you wound up then wait a little while and calm down before you post, it might well come across in a much better manner.
I partially agree with the first point. I disagree with the second. It came across as a rant, not constructive criticism.
About the point about the interruptions - it might be something to take note of, but to be perfectly honest it is not somethibg I’ve ever noticed during the podcast. Even so…this would be classified as ‘high hanging fruit’ imo. Nitpicking. Perhaps Jonathan can do a better job of letting Chad finish a point. The flip side is perhaps Chad could do a better job of finishing his own point and keeping his place when others interject.
This is all just part of putting together a quality podcast. And hell…this is done LIVE. There are a lot of garbage podcast sout there, including heavily edited/prerecorded ones. These guys put out a quality, informative podcast every week. I think a bit of slack needs to be cut for them. An expectation of perfection os unreasonable.
What the TR guys do on the podcast is really hard. Anyone who has binged watched or listened to early episodes can see the work that they have put in to making a truly professionally produced podcast, not to mention the investment in technology and the studio. You can see that Jonathan, Chad and Nate put in hours of time in preparation and have a well defined focus week after week. All three guys really put themselves out there. Chad has to do deep dives into science with a type A audience full of experienced cyclists as well as doctors and other health professionals. Nate’s experimentation and sharing is particularly impressive given his role as CEO does not lend itself naturally to putting himself out there. Jonathan ties it all together and effectively functions as a professional host while adding his own experience and expertise. These guys acknowledge mistakes and are an example of how to engage constructively with their audience on social media.
As the video quality has improved, the YouTube/Facebook experience is different than that from the audio only podcast. I now try to watch it as much as possible as there are subtleties that you pick up visually and the entertainment value is higher (N=1). No doubt, its a bit of a tightrope to walk as they know the podcast will be on different media.
Jonathan, Chad and Nate - please keep up the great work. The podcast content alone is worth the annual subscription cost.
Jonathan’s the best!!
Yes, we interrupt each other sometimes.
Sometimes it’s really important because we’re giving context.
Sometimes it’s banter or making fun of each other (my favorite).
Sometimes Jonathan needs to move us along or get us on topic.
And occasionally we interrupt when we shouldn’t. We are aware that we all do it. It’s usually out of passion and because we’re super engaged. We all strive to reduce this type of interrupting.
When I was telling the bros that they were ruining my flow it was banter rather than being annoyed or anything. My favorite episodes are when we combine learning with humor and light hearted ribbing.
So keep it up the good work Jonathan!!
The best threads, discussion and feedback occur when a poster posts a topic that the majority of members will not be favorable to. However, the poster should have used more tact in their constructive criticism. I applaud @Jonathan s response!!
Anonymously insulting a known person on the internet is an act of courage? That’s pretty screwed up.
