Ironman Virtual launched

Good work. Glad you pushed thru (the tech issues) and got it done.

I love the concept, but they clearly have work to do as this range of problems shows.

Yeah it all worked out in the end, but my key tips would be;

  1. Make sure you have registered for an event and it’s in your Events tab before you workout. :bulb:

  2. Don’t rely on a single method (Zwift, TR, etc.), have a fallback method running in tandem. Synch your primary first and see the distance or time has made the grade, then use your fallback if necessary.

  3. Be patient, they’re trying their best to help everyone out but it’s a rushed operation for the Covid era. The primary goal is to motivate people and give them reasons to train :slightly_smiling_face:

Well done brother! Now that you’re through, would you recommend or do another one?

Thanks mate, that’s a good question. I think I would now that I’m confident in how it all works, I know they’re already brainstorming what to do next weekend but with Patrick Lange unexpectedly racing right now I don’t think it will be another middle distance event.

Next time I think I’ll try to have a treadmill so I can do some of the run online and get the social side going for motivation. As a long course triathlete I’m used to spending long hours alone with no chat, but I appreciated the few words I exchanged on Zwift. While we’re in lockdown I’ll join the free events, I just can’t see why I’d pay much for it though.

Would I recommend it? Well if you’re a triathlete like me feeling a bit in limbo, I would have done a couple of short training sessions and a lot more gardening if this hadn’t come up, instead I got two solid runs in and a really tough bike. It was a laugh and cheered me up  So if that suits you, then yes. But if you’re looking for a serious race, I’d wait until the global pandemic is over.

Finished the challenge today! It pushed me to do more than I was planning to this weekend and was a good way to test my current fitness. Glad I did it!

…and VR 2 race has been announced for next weekend  3km run, 40km bike, 10km run. It’s free as well.

I’ll have to see how this one aligns with my planned training before making a call on registering.

Tempting…

I’ve registered for VR2.

So I’m going to try Rouvy - does anyone understand how their distance is generated?

Basically I’m wondering if it’s easier to simulate real rides there, or if it’s like Zwift.

Is there no way to get an estimated “distance” on TR or would it be all guess work?

Yes, but see upthread - it’s an estimate but not the realistic simulated distance I’m looking for.

Just completed the sprint challenge, but the dashboards stuck at 67% as the final 5k run isn’t being imported from strava. Anyone know a fix other than running again?!

Email the support address, same happened to me last weekend with the bike leg. They will fix it for you

They sent an email about syncing taking a long time this weekend. My run on Friday took overnight to get to IMVC.

How do people record treadmill sessions for running?
I’ve been using a Nordic Track treadmill and they want me to purchase an app just to connect to the onboard BT. When I use my Garmin watch and HRMrun it seems to be slow compared to the treadmill and my outdoor experience.

Is there another way to record the distance using the treadmill BT output?

There is an option to calibrate your treadmill workout before you save it. I can’t remember how it works because I now use a Stryd foot pod which makes the whole exercise very easy.

Do you mean there’s an option on the garmin?

I had a go at the Ironman VR race over the weekend. It was a bit of fun.
The treadmill was a pain in the bum. Aside from my legs being totally fried, I found it really annoying that it couldn’t be paired like a speed sensor.

I’ve got to give it up to you tri mob. Cooking yourself on the bike and then trying to run is no joke.

Yes, your Garmin watch probably has a callibration option after you’ve ended the activity but before you click save.

Calibrating the Treadmill Distance

  • Start a treadmill activity (Starting an Activity), and run at least 1.5 km (1 mi.) on the treadmill .
  • After you complete your run, select STOP.
  • Select an option: To calibrate the treadmill distance the first time, select Save. …
  • Check the treadmill display for the distance traveled, and enter the distance on your device.

Zwift Run + footpod or Apple Watch/Garmin watch

Updated this morning, didn’t win a jersey though!
